The Silence That Winter Brings
©Holly Charlton

The Winter months are coming too soon...
They'll be here before we have a chance to bid Summer and Autumn farewell.
And the rivers, streams, lakes and ponds
Will be frozen solid;
Changed, transformed into sheets of pure glass.
The snow will cover the ice
In sparkling powder, perfectly white.
My tears, mourning for warmth,
Will roll down my cheek
But freeze before falling.
All the forests will scream and echo with the silence that Winter brings
Revealing no life
As if Spring shan't be seen again.
But I know that the bare trees will grow clothes again
And that the animals will awaken, and rejoice
The flowers will bloom
And the water tops will melt,
To once again flow.
Winter hasn't arrived yet...
But already I pray and wait for Spring.
