For Kate Gill- aka: Heart of Stone

Centuries ago, I was surrounded-

By nothing.

Compressed and hot, I slowly

Churned upwards.

How pathetic, each fleeting

Movement of life

I worked so hard-

For what?

To see my old friends

Torn up and shipped off

And see everything around me

Mutilated?

Or to be warmed by

The sun, and filled

With its glory, and

Embrace the ones

Who rest on me?

It gets cold in my heart

With the winter’s destruction

But I worship the sun

That accompanies me.
