Sedated
I’ll watch you from across the room as your eyes start to grow heavy and your limbs numb. You lie languid across the couch that I’ve made comfortable for you with a pillow and blanket. Those wild eyes are glazing over, a sharp tongue getting dull. You’re going to sleep tonight. No more late night raves or punch drunk love, I want something real now. You always said some day you’ll take it slow but meanwhile I’m left here hanging acting out a game of house with a player gone astray. But tonight I’ll pick up the vial and put it in the back of the fridge behind the milk after throwing out the needle and baby you’re going to sleep so good tonight. And if you wake up with a confused smile I’ll toast you with the good wine. But as you lie asleep now though I know you can’t hear me I’ll give you peace of mind; I’ll give you my love in the prescribed amounts.
