I come in every morning and listen to you sing

Joke around about serenading and that sort of thing

It helps me make it through the day, makes it feel alright

But nothing helps me when I curl up cold at night

But then I get up in the morning and head of once again

And come and watch you shuffling cards and deal with deeper pain

When you taught me to play ‘shithead’ I thought you would give in

But instead you looked at me and laughed I could only choke and grin

I want to tell you that you mean more then the world to me

But I’ll settle for the shallow smile that I let the whole world see

I’ll lean back on the chair and pretend I’m not a wreck

And let you pull another card from a dwindling deck

You’ll shake your head and blink as I win another game

You’ll look at me in disbelief while I grin like I’m insane

I never thought that loving you would ever be this hard

Funny how a thing like cards could make me fall apart
