Blood Red Roses

Crystalline tears fell like stars from the heavens, trailing down her porcelain angelic face. A day for love that ended in pain. A day of red and rejoice oozing through her veins. Had it not for her stupidity, maybe she’d be able to save a life. She took it too far and now there was no turning back. What a wonderful life she had, boyfriend included. It was nearing Valentines Day, one of her favorite holidays. She had gotten her boyfriend a card and some chocolate and such but had no idea what he’d get her.

Well Valentines Day came and she got nothing. He didn’t even speak to her when she gave him her gift. Her heart crunched a bit inside. Did he love her at all. The day grew on and all she could hear was her friends talking about what they got. When they’d ask her, she would keep quiet. The last school bell finally rang and she ran out to her car, almost in tears. Maybe this holiday was just too overrated and she was taking everything too serious. It’s just Valentine’s Day right? No, not to her that is.

She almost swerved off the road blinded with tears beginning to develop. She picked up the phone and dialed her boyfriend’s number and screamed. She screamed at him with her anger and sadness. He knew how important he meant to her. He stuttered and said something but she didn’t even listen, she slammed the phone down and ran up to her room.

After venting she felt guilt rise up within her. She decided to call him back feeling bad. Strangely the phone rang as she reached to answer it. It was his parents. After a couple moments she dropped the phone and ran to her car, speeding down the road. He had been in a car crash and wasn’t waking up.

His car had been flipped over, the windows crushed and they had just gotten him out of the car. She ran over to him crying, as if her tears would save him. He didn’t move. The wind blew and rose petals of different colors blew out of the car and his clothing. What an odd sight, Roses mixed with blood. She hugged herself a bit as he was put into an ambulance and just stared at the wreckage. The parents had talked to her leading her into more guilt.

Fifteen dozen roses, different colors, different scents, all in his car; a surprise gift for her and a simple note that said “I love you”

The Bittersweet Valentine.
