It's a Boy, Mrs. Walker

It's funny that Lisa's last name is now Walker, especially since she just gave birth to a boy. You know, Tommy. It's a boy, Mrs. Walker.

Brian squeezes my hand excitedly as the nurse places the newly born into Lisa's arms. Emily stands next to us, tears of happiness in her eyes. I imagine that she's feeling proud of herself. After all, the reason the little boy is in existence is because of her. We can just hear the words of those inside from our position just outside the room.

"I'm tempted to say we should name him Tommy," she says dryly to John, who shakes his head.

"No. Let's name him Emmett." He glances out the window to look at Emily. "We'll make Tommy his middle name."

Emily begins to cry happily. Her cousin Luke puts his arm around her and pulls her against his side. She makes a noise that's halfway between a sob and a laugh as John opens the door to the hospital room to let her in.

"Come see your godson, Emily," he says. "They want to see you."

Emily glances at us before following him inside the room. Lisa looks up and smiles at her before holding out her son for Emily to see.

Brian and I turn away, feeling voyeuristic. Luke stands at the window, looking hungrily in. He wants it all, I can tell. He wants the stereotypical happy family.

Sometimes I think he wants Emily too, but I try to not think about that. Emily doesn't realize that maybe he loves her a little too much; I'm glad. If she noticed, it might make her even more messed-up. Honestly. I'm gay, and that's frowned upon. Incest is even more forbidden – actually illegal in most cultures.

There are times when I think I want the whole happy family. But when I think of raising kids, it sends shivers of horror through my body. I don't think I could stand it.

I've dealt with a lot of kids in my life. I volunteer at this hospital and goddamn are young kids annoying. I don't know how I'd deal with having my own. I guess adoption might not be so bad, but that's just so stereotypical for gay men.

I guess I might be able to deal with kids if I was with someone who I loved. But I doubt Brian wants kids. He's not exactly the type.

"Do you ever think you might want kids?" Brian asks me suddenly.

Then again, he's always surprising me.

"Yeah, sometimes," I confess. "Why?"

"I was just thinking." He presses a kiss to my temple. "Do you think we'd be able to raise kids together?"

"You want to stay with me for that long?" I ask incredulously.

"Alan, you idiot, I love you." He pulls me to him and plants a kiss on my lips that takes my breath away. "Of course I do."

"Don't start with kissing," I warn him. "You remember what happened last time."

He smiles sneakily. "You mean you performed a concert with love bites all over your neck? Yes I remember. It was one of the funniest things that's ever happened to me in my life."

"It didn't happen to you, it happened to me, and it was humiliating!" I exclaim. "Though I did enjoy the part leading up to it."

"So why don't we find a nice janitor's closet and…have us some fun?" he suggests, letting the arm around me slide down to my rear, which he pinches. He smirks when I yelp.

"Brian, we're in a public place!" I whisper, looking around. It really didn't matter, as no one was around.

"Do you have those fetching scrubs?" he asks me. "It reminds me of Grey's Anatomy."

"You watch Grey's Anatomy?" I demand, eyes widening in horror and amusement. "Brian, these are depths of you that I have never seen."

"Guilty pleasure," he confesses. "I mostly watch it in the faint hopes that Alex and George will hook up."

I raise an eyebrow at him. "What, you want me to be George so you can be Alex and seduce me?"

"I'm not sure that was grammatically correct, but yes."

"Later. I want to talk to Emily."

"Fine." He drops a kiss on the top of my head and starts to pull away before I pull him back, hands running through his now brown hair. "Alan?"

"I love you." I kiss him. "You know that, right?"

"I kind of always suspected."

Emily comes out of the room, eyes shining with joy. Luke puts his arm around her and they come over to us.

"Oh, he's so beautiful," Emily tells us. "I can't believe it. I'm a godmother!"

John leaves the room and comes over to us. Brian offers him a cigar he stole from his father as a joke. I slap him on the back and Luke shakes his hand.

He can't speak from happiness, and he can't stop smiling. I envy his state of perfect happiness. Emily finally stops fiddling with her ring as she and John try to vocalize how happy they are. John says something and Emily laughs. I feel a bit left out.

Brian puts his arm around me and winks at me, and I decide that I'm happy enough.

Fin.

A/N: I didn't mean to put that incestual bit in. I'm sorry if it offended you, but incest does exist. Just know that Luke and Emily are not in a relationship.

This is the last chapter of Emily Laughs. It's been a fun ride, but it had to come to an end at some point. I feel Emily and the other characters have come full circle. There may be other stories with Emily in them, but this is the end of her series.
