Fake

I dress up in clothes

that I'd rather not wear

I go to a house

where I'd rather not be

I talk with the people

I'd rather not meet

I do this once a week.

I pretend to be

someone other than me

and I'll be doing it once a week

for a very long time

pretending to be what

I hate and don’t believe in

I eat and drink

with people that like me

for the wrong reasons

people who like me

for what I'm not

I glue on a smile

and shake a warm hand

"good morning,

nice to meet you

she's doing fine, no she's not here,

she's at college now, yes"

Once a month they give us a test

to see if we're lying

to see if we really belong here

I pass every time.

Today was that test

I passed again

It’s a very easy test

All you must do

is have a bite of bread

take a sip of wine

and sing a lovely song

the song is

always the hardest part

but it’s a very pretty song,

a very easy test.
