This story was also written as an English assignment, it was a symbolism narrative. Hope you like it!

The Lost Orb

The heavens are starless this night as I fly over the land I call home. My body cuts through the luminous cloud leaving sweet dewdrops along my feathers. I rise higher, reaching up to the yellow moon hanging alone in the ominous sky. I swoop down in a clean arc pulling up on the low branch of a maple tree; I cock my fuzzy head, watching the animals below. They are my favorite animals to watch, the strange people who speak in excessive chattering, most unlike my own singing. I look up to see a bulging cloud drift over my beloved gleaming orb. I rest my head, knowing it is time to sleep.

Slowly my mind awakens to the beautiful sound of my peoples words. I dive through the trees navigating myself to the sound of breakfast, loving the rush of cold air that greets me each morning. I find the bench old Miss Baker has decided to settle down in today. She sees me and greets me with her normal bird-like coo. I hop next to her, and she gives me my piece of bread. I’m the only one that ever gets this close, but like I said they were my favorite animals. I take off to the sky with one happy chirp of thanks.

I spend the rest of the day doing my favorite things; enticing the neighborhood dogs to try to catch me, a game we play everyday; swooping into formation with the other birds, if only for a few minutes, I hate following everyone; dropping by the local café trash for left over sugar donuts (my favorite); slipping to a yard for a bath and a drink.

It is the end of the day and once again I am flying home. It has been getting cloudier by the hour and by now my beautiful moon has been hidden in an ocean. I curve higher into another sea of clouds, and let my mind wonder. It is what I do everyday, a way to unwind…My body floats, and I don’t have to flap anymore, whirling sideways singing softly in my trance. I have to find my orb, I think. I start diving into the water in the sky, searching for my orb. A thin cloud drifts away revealing my orb, my moon! The sudden light awakens me, and I realize how far I let my mind drift.

The wind rustles my feathers as I settle down in the maple. My orb has been swallowed by the vast sea of miasma again. I relax then, settling my head on my torso. A breeze engulfs me in the cold air I know so much, and my bony beak forms the best smile it can. My eyes finally close to the light of my revealed and adored moon.
