your face, swimming through the haze
of a thousand changing colors
and a thousand backlit shapes,
tilts and bends and you turn away.

our enigmatic starburst of light
dazzles in our eye: a shine
(through dark and swaying bodies)
that spans the horizon and still returns
to grace us in our dance.

your nervous hands are quiet: they rest
in the back of my mind and your eyes
your eyes don’t meet mine: they shirk my glance.
you tilt and bend and turn away.

a/n: please, look me in the eye
