Temporary

Your smile is contagious, your laugh is a drug
When you’re with me, I can discard all the grief, all the pain
And together we soar, our wings the joy you offer to share
Never caring there’s nothing for you to gain
From this.

You act like my shield, erase the sadness from my heart
In those moment with you, my spirits are high
Yet it all comes crashing down as soon as you’re gone—
I try, but it’s difficult, learning to fly
With borrowed wings.
