Torments of a Girl

As she sits there pink and red
The salty tears running down her face
Her mouth is tight
And her body shakes with fright

She can’t stand another day
She doesn’t want it to last anymore
Slow breaths come in and out
As she tries to regain her composure

“Why do such terrible things happen?
How can they be?
Why is the world so cruel?
How could it do this to me?”

She hasn’t got a single friend
They all let her be alone
They told her they were no more
And they left her standing like stone

But she’s made her decision
It won’t leave her now
She’s decided she doesn’t need them
She’d rather be alone anyhow

Yet being so alone all the time
And the thought of being free
From all the troubles, torment and pain
Isn’t as it’s cracked up to be

But being free in a different way
Just might be what she needs
Yes, this idea is much better
All she must do is bleed

And at her funeral a few days after
Her friends were there to grieve
Why had they been so stupid
When they had left her clearly in need?

They hadn’t thought it through
Didn’t realize what they’d done
And so clearly the dream came to them
The girl knew she had won

She did it to cause them pain
She wanted to relieve her own
She knew this would hurt them the most
And yet she was sorry so

We can never fully understand someone
Or why they do what they do
But we can always be there for them
And keep learning about them too.
