Prologue-
Norman turned and was stunned to see his brother, Marlon. When he spoke you could hear the shock in his voice, “Marlon, you’re behind everything?”
His brother smiled maliciously, “You fool. You should have given me the throne when you had the chance.”
He lifted an arm and a black streak shot towards Norman, unprepared, he was thrown against the wall. He fell to the floor, fiery pain in his chest.
Marlon towered over him, “Between myself and Cecily, Caston will be ruled.”
Norman’s eyes widened, “It was you…you’re the one who kidnapped Cecily all those years ago.”
“Yes, and I raised her to follow in my footsteps. Once you and Marisel and Cecile are gone, we will rule,” he raised an arm and a black glow began to smother Norman.
Suddenly Marlon was thrown backwards by a burst of pink light. Both men turned to look at its owner. Marisel stood in the doorway surrounded by loyal soldiers. She raised both arms, but before she could do anything Marlon was gone.
“After him,” she said and the soldiers started out. As they left she rushed to her husband’s side.
“Norman…” she sighed as she gently lifted his head off the floor.
“He’s trained Cecily…..you must protect Cecile….she’s our-our…..last hope,” his breathing was choppy, “Send her away and close the portals…”
“Norman, don’t leave me!” Tears began to fall as she realized he had breathed his last.
Although he had been powerful, his brother had always been stronger. It had only been through their combined magic that they had held Marlon at bay. The only people powerful enough to destroy him individually were Cecile and Cecily.

“Mother, what’s wrong?” Cecile’s voice was quiet and frightened as they rushed through the palace. Marisel smiled sadly and slowed her steps as they approached the portal.
“I’m sending you away for a while. To a place much safer, until your sixteenth birthday. Then you’ll return.”
Marisel pulled back the tapestry and stepped into the small room that was behind it, “Come along.”
Cecile peered inside before entering, “Where’s father?”
Marisel bit her lip, “Your father is dead.”
Cecile’s eyes widened with tears, but Marisel continued forward. She placed her hand on the round keypad, it lit up and the portal slowly began opening. She hugged Cecile, “I love you, darling. The guardians will be waiting for you.”
She smiled sadly, “Now you must go.”
Cecile took a deep breath and, after one last look, stepped into the portal.
