Lost Identity
By XX Sharingan

Yesterday, I thought I remembered who I was. I thought that I knew my given name and who my parents were. I thought I remembered where I was born and where I grew up. But alas the memories have all faded away. Today, I have no clear sense of mind. All I remember is one name from long ago.

I stand here now surveying the remains of a fight that ended in great turmoil. Bodies are strewn all over the ground, lying in blood and decay. Great peril has been brought to this land. I am not sure of the reason for this battle or who won and lost. The items of greatest interest are the massive corpses of deadly and majestic dragons. How could mere humans slay such a being?

I came here to find myself. I wanted to know my true identity. The kind people in the next town told me that there was a great wizard here in this prestigious and now destroyed farming community. I thought maybe this wizard knew who I was or where I came from. The wizard is dead now. His remains could be the ones I stood on now. If there is no wizard, where should I go now? Should I look for survivors, help them, and then ask for help myself? Why does fate hate me?

Taking a step forward, I heard the crunching of charred bones beneath my feet. I looked downward out of interest and found black skeletons. Some areas crumbled to ashes under my feet. This could only be the work of a dragon. I suddenly felt great fear. What if one of these dragons was still alive? Would they have mercy on me? Would they eat me, destroy me with their deadly talons, or merely send me to ashes in a gust of fire? I shuddered, trying to shake the thoughts of fear from me.

Stepping over severed heads and mutilated arms and legs, I reached an area where the smell was less rancid and the bodies were more identifiable. I thought I saw movement here near a large dragon corpse. I bent down by one man who had lost his left arm. I checked for breathing. None. I looked to my right and suddenly found myself staring into the large yellow eye of a dragon.

A.N One shot... Unless you want me to continue.

I’m thumbing through the pages of my fantasies,
