Growing Memories

That time I played over the phone

Letting my flute travel to you

Just so you could hear your favorite song

You said it sounded just great

And you loved singing along

Oh as I get older

I seem to remember more about you

And the times we had before you left

And every time I have a revolution

A smile grows on my face

Oh, just like when

You asked me how to paint

Your brand new weathervane

You got a horse, just like I wanted

And perfectly painted Black Beauty

Just because that's what I loved most

Oh as I get older

I seem to remember more about you

And the times we had before you left

And every time I have a revolution

A smile grows on my face

Oh, just like when

You put me on your knee

And you held me close as you told me stories

Of your time on the big boat

When you fought for your country

Pulling me with you on memory lane

Oh your memory grows day by day

Getting bigger and stronger just like me

But as these memories grow

The bad ones grow weaker

Like when I saw you smoking on Easter

Or when you made the big dog bark

But they don't matter anymore because

Oh as I get older

I seem to remember more about you

And the times we had before you left

And every time I have a revolution

A smile grows on my face

Yeah, Grandpap, I miss you

But your memories will always bring a smile

To my aging face

I'll ne'er forget your smell

Or the way you covered your face as you slept

Yeah, I'll always remember you

All because as I get older

I seem to remember more about you

And the times we had before you left
