Hear yelling from machines

Rough beating of chains

Cars screaming, crying loudly

Gentle shrill of fake animals

No stop, no rest, no pause

Breeding, growing, hoping

Another world to live in

Hear breathing from old gadgets

From wire and cable and steel.

Hear the new nature arriving

No autumn or spring

No day or night

Artificial, so real, so true

Odd world is this gift.

Hear the glasses whisper

Buy, sell, run, hide

Back away, behind, beware.

Maybe feel stone’s embrace

Your walls, haven, jail

Hell, hellish place

So cold, maybe dead

Alive in strange ways

In the muttering of chains

Of metal, oil, glass

Your bones, blood and flesh.

Hear your siren’s singing

Piercing parody of old memories

A warning, sharp notice

So cold, look out, look out,

To where no is

No one exists

Where are we?

Once real, alive

Now real, so different

Iron bones beneath leather

Artificial, imitation

Glass heart in wooden frame

Pounding, not beating

Harsh cadence, no feeling

Drawing rules in notebooks

Singing equations to robots

Laying still, breathing nil

Thinking none, hold no fear

Where’s the flesh we abandoned?

The skin left behind?

Frail blood in dark corners

Now machines, broken puppets

Same structure, so similar

Equal, no distinction

Now stop, search your flesh

Turn from rust,

Just find your past

Halt this second!

Immortality dying

Mortality growing

Breathe now and live

Turn, walk and leave.
