wanderlust

-

-

-

-

you’re bigger than this town’
i tell myself through tear strained eyes
winding through the country roads
with the rain falling
(almost as fast)

maybe i’ll see city lights instead of stars
and fire escapes as the exit
to the alley way of streets with names
i never knew i’d know
but for now all that shines
are headlights – glaring from the dark
that stretches over fields too far
to guess where they end
or when we can start
to venture somewhere we dream

because it’s when you’re waiting
for a taste of the world
(with wanderlust on your tongue)
that your mouth says
drive.’
