Chapter 2

You can do this, Ayame… Concentrate… Ayame thought to herself, a bow and arrow at hand.

She was practicing her archery, aiming directly towards her target. Tora was lying down under the shade of a cherry blossom tree, watching his master closely.

Ready…And… She thought as she let go of the arrow, hitting the target directly and perfectly.

A smirk grazed her lips as she hit the target.

“Bulls’ eye!” She said in triumph.

Tora let out a chuckle, deep and low.

“Nice work, mistress.” He told her, earning himself a smile from the young girl.

“All of those years of training really paid off.” She said, putting the bow and the stack of arrows near a tree stump.

Should I tell her? It’s been 16 years already and still, she hasn’t known about her legacy… Her destiny… The wise Tora thought to himself.

Did he really do the right thing by not telling Ayame about her past? He believed that when she was ready, he would tell her. Like he just said to himself, it’s already been 16 years and she hasn’t figured it out. He still believes that she’s not ready. But he has to tell her sooner or later.

“Mistress Ayame… There’s something I need to tell you.” He finally managed to say.

Ayame looked at him with curious eyes.

“What is it Tora? Is something the matter?” She asked with a hint of worry in her voice.

“No… Nothing’s wrong.” He told her reassuringly.

Ayame then heard her wrist watch beep. She looked down at her wrist to see it was almost time for school. Her eyes widened.

“Can we talk about this after school, Tora? I have to go!” She said, sounding like she was in a hurry.

Tora nodded at her.

“Of course, mistress.” He said.

Ayame made a quick smile and ran towards her school. Tora chuckled as he heard her say, “Oh, man! I’m going to be late!!”

Once she arrived, she sighed in relief, making it just in time.

“Well, look what we have here.” Called out a familiar voice.

She scowled as she turned to see none other than Yukio Haruna, a black belt at the school martial arts class. He had silver hair that was touching his shoulders. Slate gray eyes that made them look captivating and appealing. She had to admit, she did find him very attractive.

Wait! What is she thinking?! He’s a lowlife jerk! Nothing else!

“What exactly do you want, Yukio?” She asked, venom in her voice.

A smirk grazed his lips as his eyes looked into hers. She looked away from his gaze.

“I just wondered what you were doing here so early. You are most of the time late.” He said, trying to mock and interrogate her.

Apparently, it wasn’t working.

“Well, in case you haven’t noticed, I’m now coming here early. So I suggest you keep your mouth shut.” She smirked, walking past him to her history class.

Yukio eyed her as she walked off.

So… She still hasn’t figured it out yet…Soon, she will… He thought, staring out the window.

A golden phoenix was flying in the sky, looking towards his master. He nodded towards his companion and walked off to class. Meanwhile, Ayame was trying to stay awake as her history teacher; Mr. Mew was giving a boring lecture to the class.

“Miss Kurono!” He snapped as he hit his ruler on her desk, making her jump and sit up straight, wide eyed.

“Falling asleep in class, I see?” he said.

He had a pair of glasses on, which made him appear dorky. He had a plaid shirt on with a dorky tie. His hair was brown with a hint of blonde. It appeared that he was about to grow a mustache but it was kind of hard to tell.

He was pretty strict with his students, and he doesn’t really like showing his soft side. He always spoke coldly and harsh, and he always had his arms crossed, which gave others the option of him being a loner. Deep down, he really cares for his students, including Ayame, since she was like a daughter to him.

“S-sorry sir! I didn’t get enough sleep last night!” Ayame said, her voice almost sounded like she was afraid of him.

Mr. Mew gave her his usual and common cold stare, unsure if she was telling the truth.

“Well, I suggest you get more sleep, or otherwise you will receive a detention.” He warned.

“Yes sir!” She said.

He then went back to teaching the class after 5 seconds of silence. Ayame sighed in relief, glad that she didn’t get a detention. But little did she know what was about to happen after school.
