aspecting

it’s sort of the after party
with traces of wine like honey
i’m aspecting Dionysus
& my head is in your hands
as you sober me up

we slide
on cobblestones slick with liquor
you call it a dance & i
call it a fall; that every time
i should bring you down with me.

creased and starstruck,
the melody of your eyes
belies the steadiness of your hands
as you smooth me out
and breathe me in

and like the red sea,
these waters were meant to be parted
- and I am Dionysus, twice-born, half-god -
- and this is love. i think.

and you don’t smoke,
but with shaking hands,
you light me
like i’m a cigarette
like i’m aspecting -
i’m aspecting you

a/n: suddenly felt like writing something about Dionysus. Semele always fascinated me, at least – i had a poem about her on my door for a while: “life and sweetness/she lay dead”. i kinda like this, actually. it’s smoother than some of my other stuff – had trouble making it flow lately. aspecting anyway, is simple prettiness. i’ve done it a couple of times and it’s the strangest feeling. and yes. that's what the love references are all about. you know, that infatuation. and yes.i don’t know. i have nothing to say in this author’s note. – insert smilie –
