Hook Line And Sinker

She sat on the edge of the pavement, the harsh wind stinging as it hit her arms. Her hair flying around her head in a fiery black halo. Her dark eyes were empty now, pools of nothing. No emotion cracking through the walls she had put up. And she liked it that way. No emotion meant no pain. She had learned that lesson the hard way.

No one had ever been able to break through her walls, no one ever been able to touch her that deep. No one except that one boy. The boy with long black hair and brown eyes.

The boy that held her hand and showed her things she’d never seen before. The boy that made her feel things that she couldn’t explain. The boy that had promised her forever, and the boy that wasn’t here anymore.

She hated him for that. She hated him for leaving her here. After everything he had promised in hushed voices against her skin. She had fell for it. Hook, line and fucking sinker. Like a fool she had let herself feel. And it was a lie.

She smiled at the sight of their hands. The way they fit together so perfectly. If anyone ever needed proof that they were meant to be, all they had to do was look at their hands. The way they would cling so flawlessly together, fingers interlocking in the most intimate way. She loved to stare at their hands.

He pressed a small kiss to the side of her head, breathing in the scent of her dark hair while he did.

No words passed between them, they didn’t need words when they were together. Words just got in the way, and blocked out feeling. And they never wanted that to happen. They wanted their feelings to be clear and unclouded.

He placed his free hand carefully on the small of her back pulling her closer into his body and she buried her face into the folds of his t-shirt and breathed in deeply. She loved how he smelt.

I love you.” He bent the silence beautifully. And she smiled into his chest.

I love you too.” She answered him, squeezing his hand a little.

I mean it you know.” His brown eyes meeting hers, “Forever. I promise.” She smiled to herself at his words, letting them sink in. Letting herself feel their full effect.

Forever

She laughed bitterly at the word. Forever was meaningless and non-exsisitent. Made up for little kids to give them hope that everything would turn out okay. That they would fall in love and live happily ever after. Spoon-feeding them lies generation after generation and watching each one fall.

She had fallen to far. She was stuck in a hole, and there was no way out. She had screamed and cried for help. But no one had come to her rescue. She had tried to claw her way out but every time she did she just fell father.

She was drowning and she couldn’t save herself.

“Damn it!” She muttered under her breath and hit the pavement at full force, her fist clenched, closing her eyes against the pain that shot through her arm.

“Amy…” A voice from behind her spoke and a new wave a pain washed over her. She froze.

It couldn’t be him. He had left her. He went away. The promises, the everything… it was all a lie. He broke her. It was all nothing. It wasn’t him. She shook her head against her feelings. It was just her heart playing cruel tricks on her.

He skin jolted as a hand placed on her shoulder. Only one person had been able to get that reaction. But it wasn’t him. He was gone and she couldn’t get over it like she needed to. That was all. It wasn’t him.

“I’m sorry.” He pulled on her shoulder lightly, trying to get her to look at him. But she wouldn’t. Looking at him would make it too real. And she didn’t want it to be real. She didn’t want to feel any more.

He sat down on the hard pavement next to, taking of his jacket.

“You must be cold…” He said, handing it out to her. But she didn’t react. She stayed staring straight ahead, never once looking at him. He dropped the jacket on to her lap.

“Amy, look me…” He tried again, the hurt evident in his voice.

That angered her. He didn’t get to be the one who was hurting. He left her remember. Not the other way around.

“Save it Sonny.” She said and stood up, starting to walk away. But he was too fast for her and he mirrored her actions. Running after her.

“Wait!” He called, desperation running thick and fast through his blood, “Let me explain!”

She spun around to face him, her face red and eyes bloodshot. “Explain what Sonny?! How you left me here after you promised me forever? How you lied to me? How you…”

She never got to finish that sentence as his body against hers hushed her. His lips against hers, leaving her breathless. His hands on her back, pulling her ever closer to him.

“I love you.”

And in that moment, she didn’t care why he went away. He was here now. And that was all that mattered. In that moment, Sonny Moore pulled her from the hole and saved her.

He was her happily ever after.
