A Social Hierarchy
Why do we label and stereotype everyone? Why does every skinny girl have to have an eating disorder? Give me a reason that all religious people are wound so tight. Show me that all obese people have no self-control, and prove to me that all popular girls have boyfriends and think they’re beautiful. Humans want to be better than everyone else around them; that is why we label. We have to tease, taunt, torture, and demote other people in order to make us feel good about ourselves. It is at this stage, no matter when it begins, whether it be elementary school, middle school, high school, or even college for a lucky few, that we form an unbreakable, inflexible, and intolerant social hierarchy; a hierarchy that needs to be obeyed and followed by all in order to ensure social survival. If this strict code is not followed, it is sure that our foundations of life will crumble under our feet.
