How Could You?

How could you smile and laugh?

And be there while I cried.

How could you pat me on the back?

And turn around and lie?

How could you reassure me of the good?

That’s bound to be in us all.

And make me think about the why,

Of when I wanted to fall?

How could you walk with me?

Talk with me?

And have all those good times?

Could I not see?

How could you do as you did?

And try to make it all right.

Do you think I’ll trust you now?

Do you not see the scar from the knife?

How could I have held such faith?

When you lied all along?

Now I must face tomorrow,

Without the strength to be strong.

How could you have killed,

That which was immortal?

How could you have spilled,

that which was hollow?

How could I have been,

Such a fool as to stay.

How could I have believed,

What you had to say?

Give me a reason

But don’t expect me to listen

Some wounds cannot be healed

The blood will always glisten

How could you?
