The Dawn of Light

Prologue

A young woman of nineteen sat propped up on a desk, twirling platinum blonde hair between her fingers. Bored sapphire eyes struggled to remain open as her professor paced from one end of the room to the other while talking in a monotone voice.

Kaili Luca rolled her Blue eyes as her professor dragged on with her never-ending speech about morals and ethics. It was the same thing every day. She grew tired of the incessant talking and decided to rest her tired body on the table in front of her. As her eyes closed, the voice faded into nothing and she soon fell into the arms of sleep.

Images started to take shape behind her eyelids; the shapes slowly becoming people from places she knew she had never visited. One image stuck, that of a young male a few years older then her. She didn't recognise him, but she knew he held some importance.

The vision started to get more graphic in nature. It focused in on the young man, who she guessed was relative to this new sequence. He had Blonde hair, almost silver in nature. His dark green eyes flashed from a harmless Sea Green to a chilling pure black. His skin started to turn a greyish tint and his human nails became claws. Large and magnificent White wings sprouted from his back making him look like a fallen angel.

She saw herself standing in front of him as he advanced closer, whispering her name in earnest. He soon stood before her, a crystal tear falling down his grey cheek. His hand extended to her face, softly brushing away the errant strand of hair he found. His face turned gentle, and a small smile of relief came over his lips.

"I found you...Kaili."

With her name being said, she jerked up in her seat. Her professor stood over her, a frown permanently etched on the withered skin. Professor Huda gave her a dirty look before marching to the black board and writing Kaili's name in bold letters under the detention section. Kaili groaned and hit her head on her arm; the teacher had it in for her.

Her friend Siti, also known as Sitara, gave her a sympathetic smile as the class bell rang. Siti gathered her things and left class, glancing behind her shoulder at Kaili before vanishing out the door. Kaili glanced up at Professor Huda nervously, awaiting some severe punishment.

Professor Huda sat down at her desk, waiting until the last student filed out of the room. When they had all gone, she turned to Kaili with a soft smile. Kaili glanced around the room, trying to find what the teacher was smiling at. When she realised it was her, she gulped in fear.

"Ms. Luca, I see you have awoken. It is about time. Sorry about the act, I had to appear oblivious." Professor Huda then laughed lightly at Kaili's stunned expression. "It would appear that you still do not know."

The elder lady took out a small compact from her purse, handing it to Kaili. She gestured that Kaili should look at her self and Kaili gave her a confused glance. When she actually did look at her reflection, she nearly had a heart attack.

Peering back at her were two completely white eyes. There was no other colour but a soft milky White, and her stunned face. Her skin had taken on a Bronze glow, shimmering slightly as the light hit it. Her platinum hair was even more platinum if it was at all possible and her skin had become softer to the touch.

"Professor…I don't understand." Kaili shook slightly, small tremors running through her body. Her mentor just grinned a knowing grin and patted her hand. Kaili slumped down in her chair, exhausted by her new appearance.

"Welcome to your fate, young one. You see, Ms.Luca.. You are a Lunel. A highly evolved species, An 'Angel' as the mortals in this society would call it. You have just come into your inheritance. I've been waiting for you too; I am your guardian. My real name is Mhina Lycoris."

Her Professor's body began to glow, blinding the room in a pure white light. When it settled down, The elderly lady was now a young woman. Bright Blonde hair settled down her back in waves, White downy skin surrounded curious Crystal eyes.

Kaili stared, mouth agape. Her Old and frightening teacher was now a mischievous little teenager. Mhina giggled at the dumbstruck look she received and plopped in the chair next to Kaili. She swung her legs back and forth, waiting for Kaili to speak.

"Professor..I don't understand." Mhina smiled and jumped up, a ball of energy. She grabbed Kaili by the hand and dragged her over to the head desk. On it sat random bunches of paper and a Black Sphere. Kaili's hand started to reach for it but she was quickly pulled back by Mhina who had a look of unease about her.

"Kaili, you must be prepared if you touch that. It will reveal to you, your destiny. You can only touch it if you are truly ready to." Kaili pulled back even further, wondering why Mhina had dragged her across the room if not to see the sphere. Her question was soon answered when Mhina pulled a gold necklace off the desk.

The necklace was a thick and sturdy chain. A large amulet hung from it, a large white stone resting in the middle. The entire piece seemed ancient, dating back many centuries. The years of wear had begun to show, marring the once pristine colour of the Jewellery. It looked tarnished but in an attractive way that was appealing to the eye.

"Professor.. Mhina…Who am I?" Kaili sat down on the hard ground, drawing her knees up to her chest. A single tear fell down her face and she sniffled. Mhina knelt down beside her, placing the necklace in her hand that partially sat on her knee.

"This is who you are, Kaili. This is your existence." The jewel began to glow as it touched Kaili's skin. Kaili watched in fascination as the glow began to grow stronger and pulse. It soon matched the pace of her heartbeat. "You see, Kaili? This is your very life and essence."

"This necklace is meant for you, and you alone. It is called, Dawn of Light. It was created a millennia ago for a young Lunel called Zhara. She was our light in a world of darkness. She was to be the next ruler of our race, alongside her mate Kegan. Some things are not meant to happen though, and Zhara was murdered by our enemies."

"Kegan went mad at the death of his mate, and was left to raise their young child. That child had to be removed from him for her own safeguarding. At the death of ones mate, a Lunel slowly goes insane. And he did. It is a sad thing really, but we cannot live without each other."

"The child was sent to a small village of mortals where she was raised as one of them. She never fully awoke to her true form, and neither did her descendants after her. You are the first since Zhara. We have watched every generation, hoping to see a glimpse of something to give us hope. And at your birth, there was great rejoicing."

"You are the only heir, the only surviving child of Zhara's line. That is why I am here, to bring you to your destiny. This necklace must stay with you, always. It is your connection to the collective. Your mate, who I am gathering you saw in your vision, will soon be coming for you. It is only a matter of time. He will soon find you, and you must marry within a weeks time or there will be dire consequences."

Mhina smiled as she finished, and looked expectantly at Kaili. Kaili looked at Mhina with wide eyes before she gave a surprised giggle and fell back against the desk, having fainted. Mhina sighed, and gave a little laugh herself. "Well, That went better than I thought it would.."
