CHAPTER 5

Randi was left at the bathroom door feeling surprised and a little dazed. Never before had her sister acted so peculiar. With a furrowed brow she stepped into the bathroom as her sister slammed her bedroom door shut. She cringed as she felt the slam of the door reverberate around her. She stepped tentatively towards the sink and what she saw stunned her.

Bright red drops of liquid shone on the stark white tiled floor. A razor smeared with the same substance lay inches beside the drops of liquid, a tell-tale sign that it was that object that helped withdraw the liquid from where it came from.

It took Randi a couple of seconds for her to realize that the liquid she was staring at was actually bright red drops of blood. Blood that came from someone. Someone who was just in the bathroom.

Her eyes followed the trail of blood drops to the trash can. She peered inside silently praying to God to not find anything but crumpled up tissue paper. Her heart sank as her eyes landed on an empty prescription bottle. Her mind was going berserk with emotions and thoughts crashing into each other. She felt her heart skip a beat as the gravity of the situation dawned on her.

Her arms and legs felt like jelly as she gasped for oxygen, feeling as though the air was knocked right out of her.

No, not my sister. Not my sister.

But somehow, somewhere insider her she knew it was true. Her sister had started something so irreversible, the consequences were devastatingly tragic. Looking up into her own reflection, she saw her sister looking back at her.

She couldn’t deny the fact that she and her sister looked almost exactly the same. They both had the same brown eyes, the same skin color, the same lips. The only real differences in their appearance was their hair and height; Randi’s was shorter and straighter than her sister’s long flowing locks, and Dina stood a good two inches taller than her sister.

Shaking her head out of her short reverie, tears formed in her eyes as a scream exploded from within.

“Mom! Mom! It’s Dina! Mom, come help!” screamed Randi as she finally regained control of her limbs, tearing out of the bathroom to her sister’s closed door. She tried the knob but it wouldn’t budge.

She banged on the door, begging and screaming for her sister to open it, hoping that it wasn’t too late for her to help change her sister’s mind about what she was doing.

Her mother rushed up the stairs to see what all the noise was about, her heart and mind racing. She had only heard her youngest daughter scream like that once before, and it was as frightening then as it was now to hear it again.
