Never Forewarned

A thousand tears cannot douse these flames,

Nor can a single “sorry” erase your past of pain.

A simple “I forgive you” cannot stall your sins,

Nor can a creeping curtain let the light in.

A heart healed but never restored;

There is no love in those not forewarned.

- - -

A whistling tune can never speak

The words that flourished from this beak.

An initial love I sent to you

But you never saw it true.

You said the words I knew were fake,

And ’twas my heart that you did break.

- - -

And he took the words

And he spoke them so clearly

That one might have even thought

That he meant them dearly.

- - -

There was nothing in place, nothing to waste;

A simple gesture from hand to face.

But if what he said was untrue

Then tell me, what shall I do?

’Twas never spoken of before it came,

And ’twill only be mentioned in the greatest of pains.

- - -

A heart is not merely a simple thing

To toss about, to laugh at, to sing about.

If once dissolved, it can never be reformed;

If once unsolved, it can never be rejoined.

The life of a broken heart is the life of a star

That has burst into flames and is, from human eyes, very far.

- - -

And to have said those thing

With such sincerity

And, yes, I’ll admit that I do,

I used to think them true;

But to have spoken those words with such a force,

I’ll tell you, he had me coerced.

- - -

There is no hardship in being loved;

There is no hardship in being happy.

A heart can heal over, but a part is always gone.

’Tis the part I bestowed upon you,

And now you have ripped it to shreds,

With laughter mocking my tears.

- - -

And the truth is, my heart will never be restored

Because I was never forewarned.

I gave so much love to one who never knew it;

And ’twas it the man who shatter my heart,

Or the child who claimed to not know love?

For either of these situations, I was never forewarned.

This is based slightly after a situation in a book. If you can guess it, I'll give you a cookie. If not...oh well.
