Guardian Angel

Her wings folded about you in comfort
Eyes half-closed to block out what stands before her
An angel drowns in the rain of her own tears.

Everything about her is numb, cold and lifeless.
Nothing exists but the pain in her heart
As she watches from over your shoulder.

Can you hear her warning whispers in your ears?
Can you feel the warmth of her tears on your face?
Can you feel her hand in yours, pulling you away?

“You shouldn’t go there,” she says.
“You’ll kill me if you do.
I can’t go there with you.
Please don’t make me leave.”

“I don’t want to leave you alone.”
