A Poem to You
10/17/06
Sunlight filters through
Golden leaves
Falling,
Falling through mind and body.
Resting on tendrils
Of broken thoughts,
Yet to be completed.
I want, I long, I need.
What?
Finish what you start—
But is honesty the best policy?
I want—
To hold you, to love you, to be beside you—forever.
I long—
To be with you, to be in you, to see your face as you come.
I need—
To be held, to be wanted, to love and be loved.
I finished what I started.
Is honesty the best policy?
Shall I speak these words
To her endearing face?
Shall I speak these words
And watch her face change thought?
Shall I speak these words
And watch her eyes shifting,
Grasping for a hold
On the words I speak so truly?
Shall I?
Or should I wait,
Wait for her to make the first move?
She has made it already—
But is it the move that I
Want, Long, Need?
Or is it merely a move of
Close friendship,
And nothing more?
Breaking my heart,
Scattering its pieces
As the sunlight is
Scattered by ever-falling leaves?
I Want,
I Long,
I Need—
You.
Too terrified to speak aloud,
I write these things to you
And hope for a joyful response,
But is it too much to ask for?
Can you feel the same?
Will I frighten you
Away into the
Sun-filled leaves
Never to hear from you again?
Or are you just as terrified,
Waiting for me to
Speak and voice the
Desires
I harbor, you harbor?
If only I knew,
Darling,
What you were
Wanting, Longing, Needing.
I would do it.
If only I could look into your
Eyes
And read your
Soul.
If only reading you
Was as easy as seeing
The leaves
Falling to the ground
In gentle thought.
If only,
Darling,
You read this,
This poem to you
And believe its simple words
And know that they speak true.
I want you,
I long for you,
I need you—
Do you
Want me?
Long for me?
Need me?
Darling,
This poem to you.
