Looking her up and down, I knew that she would definitely make a great companion on the road I was now traveling. I just didn’t know if the road I was taking would be a healthy one for her and me. Would it take me to somewhere I fought so hard to stay out of? Would it take me somewhere that would help me in this thing that I was doing? Or was everything I was doing wrong? And when I am fifty and sitting in a thirty year old chair, thinking over my life, am I going to look over what I am doing right know and mentally slap myself or am I going to smile? And remember everything good that came out of it? I want to know now. I don’t want to wait for everything to play out. I need to know now. I know that what I am saying is pretty selfish. But give me some undeserved credit. Please. Not that I really deserve any of it. So please don’t give me it.
“Want a refill?” I was taken away from my thoughts and looked. Oh! Look, I was taken away from my thoughts by what was a very sexy guy. Maybe everything wasn’t going so bad.
I smirked, “Yes, please,” I replied sexily. Hey, just because the reality of my life was crap, the dreamland of it, didn’t have to be. I then noticed the person that had first invaded my thoughts. The very lady was sitting right across from me. No wonder the waiter had looked at me a little weirdly. Correction to a sentence ago, this person would not be classified as a lady. No. She was more than that. More than the average female human you cross on the street. This person you could see in the eyes had the strength and courage to do whatever she needed. Needed. Not wanted. No this person was no put off my earthly processions. This person you could tell knew there was more on this land. Yes, this person, this extremely gold lifting girl, would definitely be the person to help him with his life.
“You there?” She asked, waving a hand in front of his face.
“Hmm?” He asked getting away from his thoughts again.
“You’re okay?” She looked at his again, curiously and searching his face, she seemed to get an answer. “Good. Now tell me, were you flirting with our waiter?”
He smirked, “Maybe.”
“Well, good, you need to get over Josh.”
At the mention of his name, he frowned. He still couldn’t believe everything that had happened. Him coming out but having nobody there to fall back on, then ending up the a bookstore, finding a friend. And now, at a coffee shop slash restaurant where he was flirting with the waiter. What a nice reality.
“Oh,” She said seeing his face, “I’m sorry. Maybe we should just avoid any subject of the past few days.” It seemed, though it had only been awhile since the two met, she knew him very well.
“Um. I know this might be really weird, but I don’t even know your name.” He stated.
She laughed, “Hi, I’m Miranda. Nice to meet you.” She said, extending her hand.
I laugh too, “Hi, I’m Luke. Nice meeting you.” I said shaking her hand.
She shakes her head, “Now what?”
“I need some help.”
She chuckles, “Well that was obvious.”
“Funny,” I glare. “But seriously, I need some help getting my life back.”
“Are you sure that you want the same life you had?” She asks looking me in the eye.
“No,” I answer truthfully, “I want something completely different. Something that I can really be myself.”
“I can help you then.”
I thank her gratefully before the waiter comes to the table, “Here’s your mocha.”
“Thanks,” I say, not even giving him the second look. I look over at Miranda, “I can do much better.” I smirk.
“Good thinking,” She smirks back. “Just don’t let all that go to your ego!”
I laugh, “I’ll try.”
