In the deepest unknown depths of the sea lives a tiny, horrible monster. It's exterior is a glistening shell as black as the depths of nothingness; blacker than the unimagined space between the stars and dripping with a sickly, putrid ichor and yet not thoroughly black, but a sickly blue black. It is streaked with a nauseous green pallor which by contrast makes the black seem even more horrible.

Encased in this daemonic armor is a fleshy lump of grotesque, pulsating life. Despite all we think we know of life, this thing, with no discernible organs or features, this mass of animal matter, somehow functions as a living organism.

Unaided, a sane human mind could never conceive of the travesty of nature, the mockery of science, that is the common mussel.
