I once knew a song

I sung it out loud

A song, of loneliness

And despair.

I wish I could sing

Sing it for you

But you’d laugh

‘cause life is never fair

I once sung that song

Every day of my life

Walkin’ alone

Tryin’ not cry

But eventually I grew older and stopped singing it out loud

But trust me,

It’s always been there.

I once wrote that song

In the midst of those notes

The most powerful to me

Of them all

I would play that song

Trying not to cry

Every day,

I tried not to fall

I once played that song

Every day of my life

Playin’ alone

Tryin’ not try

But eventually I grew older, and moved on to other songs

But trust me,

It’s always been there.

This song is the song of my life

Of a lonely childhood

That never seemed to go away

If only they knew

The words that I sang

If only, the words, that I played.

The piano became my tool,

My voice to cry my tears

They heard it, but never understood

But eventually I grew older, and moved further in my life

But trust me,

It’s always been there.

I once made a friend,

I once fell in love

I found someone that helped heal that pain

I played him my song

He spoke his own

But even then, people move away

The song has never removed itself, I’ve always felt its pain.

And every time I reached out, eventually I’d feel the same

Fifth wheels and friendships tear me apart

If only they really knew

I’m feeling that song tonight

I’m singing that song tonight

I’m playing that song

I’m crying that song

I wish… I wish they knew.
