Angels Among Us

---

When weak, we pray for release

For Angels to take the pain away

Wishing, hoping for this beautiful being

To save us soon, someday.

When the hurt's too much, we can't go on

We wonder where Angels hide

Why aren't they here to help, to soothe

To prevent tears we may cry.

We start to believe Angels aren't real

Where are the ones with silken wings?

We doubt that they're actually there

If we can't see the halo and things.

But an Angel needs no wings of lace

Nor a halo above their head

To help us in a time of need

They need just a smile instead.

For an Angel may not fly

But rather stand by our side

Offering a shoulder to cry on

Or a soul in which to confide.

An Angel may not be clothed in white

But be disguised as a sibling or a friend

Walking by us with proffered hands

To hold until the end.

But still, we pray for release

For Angels to take the pain away

And maybe I never knew it before

There are Angels among us every day.
