When Tobias woke up with a pinch from a spider, Dawn had already left for work. It was the regular routine. Dawn had to work breakfast and lunch shifts, and left in time to make dinner for her and Tobias. Tobias himself was not due in to work for hours after she was. They actually only saw each other for a few hours of the day, and that was generous of Swift and the counsel to schedule them for that much time together.

Tobias stepped into the bathroom. "Shower" he said. He was immediately covered in soapy water from a various set of jets. After a few seconds, the jets stopped and light sprinklers in the ceiling turned on to rinse all the soap off. All of the water collected in drains on the floor once the sprinklers were done cleansing Tobias.

Tobias left the rest room, got dressed, and headed out to his care while eating a protein bar that was in his jacket pocket. "Office." He said to his car as he balled up the wrapper to the bar. A spider came up his arm and disintegrated the trash for him.

Tobias' car pulled into its spot and he made his way to the monolith via moving sidewalk. He rode the elevator to his floor in the monolith and made his way to his desk. As he sat down in his chair, the clock changed from 7:59 to 8:00. In the history of Tobias' employment he had arrived hat his desk at exactly eight o'clock.

He turned all of his screens on to camera feeds and had them search for the tattoo found on the people he had unmade in the previous day. I could just unmake them now, no need for going undercover, and my count will skyrocket. With a pinch on his neck, Tobias' ambitious thought was erased.

Within minutes one of the computers found a match. Tobias forwarded the address and personal info to his car and headed for the elevator. The would read up on the terrorist on the way to meet with them.

Tobias' charcoal gray car zoomed down the streets of Boston. He read the personal information on the terrorist on what usually was a GPS screen. Her name was Teri Connoly. She had blonde hair, ice blue eyes, and a small body frame. Judging by appearances, Teri was unimpressive, and frankly, her profile painted her out to be just that. No prior offenses, a steady job keeping the city's systems online, and a husband in the same field working in New York. Teri actually worked a few floors beneath Tobias in the monolith.

Teri sat outside at a cafe sipping imitation tea. While there were limited amounts of time people could eat at restaurants, cafes were a different matter. Everything at a cafe was a synthetic imitation of what it once was, and everything was easy to make out of the most common of chemicals.

Tobias pulled up on the street corner by the cafe and took a seat at an outdoor table with his back to Teri. He ordered and iced cappuccino. No harm in enjoying myself. He thought.

Halfway through his drink, Tobias sent a spider over to Teri. The spider made its way up Teri's leg and rested on the back of her neck, in the same spot where Tobias had a spider permanently attached to his brain stem. Teri gasped, but before she could reach up and swat the spider away, it sunk into her skin and made a temporary connection with her own brain stem. This would allow Tobias to connect with Teri mentally. "Don't be afraid, Teri, I just want to talk."

Teri said nothing.

"You don't need to worry. The spider on your neck is linked to the one on mine. Just think your words and I will hear them. It's a silent form of communication."

After a slight pause, Teri spoke. "Is anyone listening?"

"Just me." Tobias lied. A man who went by the name of Overlord had been the one to invent the spiders. Although each Enforcer had a select few personal spiders that they were connected to, Overlord was connected to every spider in existence. Tobias had no idea how. Even so, he was certain that Swift had already informed Overlord of his mission and spider communication was safe.

"Are you going to unmake me?" Teri said with worry. "If you are, please reconsider. Check your records - I've done no wrong."

"I'm not here to unmake you." Tobias said. "Quite the opposite, actually. I saw your tattoo. The one that the spider on your neck is currently hiding. I know what it means... Sort of. I want out of being an Enforcer. I can't take the guilt of killing all these people, and then not even knowing who they were or if they even deserved it."

Teri was smiling. Tobias could feel it through the spider. "Finally. I'll see what I can do. Come back here tomorrow at the same time. We can talk some more. The thing is, I need to get to work now."

Tobias looked at his watch which read 8:25. "Sounds good." Tobias disconnected the spider from Teri's neck. The two stood up and walked in opposite directions away from the cafe.

The next day, Tobias went to the same cafe at 8:10, and found Teri waiting for him at the same table. He smiled and sat down at the table behind her with his back to her. He sent an order for yet another iced cappuccino as a spider made its way to Teri's neck. She did not flinch this time. "Well?"

"I've talked to my superiors." Came Teri's reply.

"And?"

"They don't trust you. Believe me, it's hard to trust a man with a spider always perched on his shoulder."

"Do you trust me?"

"No." Teri put simply. "But I really want to. It's not like I have much of a choice. Think about it. You haven't even given us a name."

"Tobias. My name's Tobias. Tobias Syrin... And you?"

"You already know that."

"Pretend I don't. I wanna be a bit more... Formal... You know... Polite. So let's try this again. I'm Tobias."

"I'm Teri, and I still don't trust you."

"How can I make you and of course, your superiors trust me?"

"It's on the backs of our necks right now Tobias! You can't just say you want to join a resistance with a spider pumping God knows what into your veins!"

"Pumping what into my veins?"

"Exactly! You don't even understand that! I want to believe you, Tobias, I really do. You're a nice guy, but to the rest of the resistance, you're just another one of Them. I can see it in your eyes. Come back to us when you've changed!" Teri barely gave Tobias enough time to pull off the spider before she stormed off, leaving her tea unfinished.

When Tobias returned to his car, the screen showed a face that was unfamiliar. He had let the car's computer search for terrorists while he talked to Teri. Apparently it had found one. The name was Jonathan Argos. He was a middle aged man who was slightly balding. There were a few miner blemishes on his records, such as showing up to work a couple minutes late. However, the cameras had discovered that Jon was in possession of contraband.

Tobias uploaded a list of people Jon had interacted with to his field spiders before telling the car to go to Jon's apartment. Tobias entered the building and climbed the stairs to get to the door marked with Jon's number. He knocked on the door. "It's open!" Jon called out.

Tobias turned the doorknob and let the door silently swing open. Jon's job must not have let him get an automatic door yet. He could hear music coming from the television room. Tobias entered just in time to hear " 'Oh my god! You killed Kenny!' 'You bastard!'" Tobias shielded his eyes to avoid watching more of the horrid program. He pulled out his gun and shot the television. He looked at the room again to see the shattered screen. "Much better."

"Jonathan Argos." Tobias began. "You have been found guilty of crimes against the United States of America. You have been found in possession of contraband material including The Matrix, Star Wars, Family Guy and of course," Tobias gestured to the broken television screen, "South Park. Do you deny this act of terrorism?"

"Not for one minute you shit hole." Jon growled. "Just shoot me now, because I aint taking your God damned pill!"

"The what?"

"You ass-" Jon was cut off when blood poured from a bullet hole in his head right between his eyes.

That's the second time someone's used that word... "God..." Maybe I'll send Swift a message. Tobias said to himself as the spiders began to unmake Jonathan Argos. With a prick on the neck upon leaving, Tobias forgot all about Jonathan Argos. He also forgot all about that strange word - "God."
