When innocence is lost

When the rose-colored glasses lay by the wayside

Cracked and covered with dust from lack of use

Why is the cynic the one with the “broken past”

Labeled as a case of “past relationship left-overs”

But not called what it is:

Cynicism

While a relationship that did not work, could not last

Disillusions us, opens the door for cynicism

It is not the only door,

Cynicism is not a by-product of a broken heart

Not something that needs to be mended, fixed, cured.
