Dancing With Death

I was walking

downtown very

late at night and I

could've sworn I saw you

out there in the cold

behind our favorite main street

past the graveyard wall

I thought I saw you

dancing there and

dancing with death

I could've sworn I saw you

but my head was drugged

I could've sworn I saw you there

dancing with death

You must understand that I

know you weren't cutting

patterns into your arms

life is no metaphor

skeletons do not dance alone

I saw you holding that skeleton

up on that crpyt roof

The moon was glowing bright

the sky had just turned black

but I knew that it was you I saw

as I doubled back

You just looked so

happy and carefree up there

I didn't want to disturb your

dancing together

Your skeleton maiden

she looked seventeen

and so pleased to see you

for such a dead queen

I could've sworn that I saw you

past graves of old

out there dancing with death

out there in the Cold

I'm sure it was you

Could it have been any other?

out dancing with death

my very own brother

but as I watched you I knew she'd won

she took your soul

right before she turned to run

You cry in my arms

and though I wish to say

that while I hold you no harm

will come to you, instead I just

hold you and wait for

her to return

then your skin starts to rot

and your hands become bone

and I let her have you because

your fate is now known

I throw you away

as she comes to take you

out dancing with death

she still walks the earth

she preys on the weak

so don't close your eyes

she'll get you in your sleep

but only if you promise

to go dancing with death
