My new
You can say what you want,
My new
You can do what you want,
But I have to do what they want.
I found you, on your own, without a care,
They found you when you were all there,
But I put you back before you were again by so many.
They hurt you and you fell in,
I caught up to you,
Appalled by what they had done,
You were through with it,
Done and finished.
I did my duty,
I picked you up,
I cleaned what I could,
Held you high,
Forgave you for them.
It was hard,
I was so close to what they weren’t,
I knew more and was forced to use it,
You made them push me,
Not sure if it was for the better,
It wasn’t worth it.
Like I said, I was close,
What you had done,
Let go of your hold,
Believed in others when they weren’t there,
Where was I?
Always there,
Right where you were.
I saw it all.
I was once lost, though,
You were far-gone,
What was I to do?
You didn’t help,
I was on my own.
That’s what hurt the most.
What I had done for you,
Was so much to me,
You waved it off,
I wasn’t anything to you.
So you ran and ran,
Not wanting what I could give,
You had no idea what it was like,
So far from your fantasies,
They were no help.
You put your trust in others,
I begged you to listen and follow,
You closed up,
It was my fault,
What was I to do but see?
It was understood to the rest,
You were not worth what they thought,
They took what they thought they gave,
It wasn’t them, who gave,
It was my fellow soldiers,
Who were forced to do what I was about to.
When our charges close up,
It’s because we weren’t enough,
The others get to you,
Although they are merely Human,
They can hurt,
Hurt to the point we can’t heal.
All we are left to do,
All we can do,
Is take on another,
The one that locked you up,
We do our best to help you.
We try harder,
We give a little more,
Overwhelmed by you,
We try to get to you,
Through our only connection.
We try to see what they hide,
What’s not closed by others,
Their reasoning for pushing,
By now we are armored,
Against the harshest of blows.
We know how to help you,
We know it all,
We have to do our best,
Because it’s not us who have to get you out,
It’s the others,
The ones who have hold of you.
The we leave, left to have faith,
In the ones we were,
Hoping they do what they can,
Forgive them for themselves,
What we could never do,
At least not when we were you.
