Scene 5:

Setting: A pool in LA. The sun is shining, and the water is cool. Palm trees sway in the background.

(The scene begins dark, with a cluster of Poolboys around a lawn chair containing Lola. Lola is now visibly pregnant. None of this is visible in the darkness. Just before lights go on, Lola begins groaning loudly.)

Lola: Ohh…Ohh…(as lights go up, revealing the set)…Ohh, my back! Would one of you dears please get me a pillow? (one of the Poolboys gets one) Oh, that's much better. (Buzz enters as she talks) You know, I really couldn't do without you all; I really couldn't…could one of you get a Pina Colada? Thanks, that's the stuff…

Buzz: Lola, I need to talk to you.

Lola: OK. (Lola goes back to jabbering to the Poolboys)

Buzz: I mean alone.

Lola: Oh. (To the Poolboys) Very well, you can go away now, I'm okay, I'll manage, I'm sure it's not a very important matter, yes, off you go, bye! (They exit)

Buzz: Look, I know this may not be the perfect time to point this out, but…

Lola: Oh my, look at the time! I really can't chat right now Buzz, I'm got very important things to do, I…

Buzz: Lola! Listen, please. It's about this lying business.

Lola: Oh.

Buzz: Lola, I read today's paper. Turning water into wine?

Lola: Well there was that cocktail…

Buzz: Lola, how are you possibly going to prove any of this?

Lola: Oh, I don't actually need to prove it!

Buzz: But, people are going to expect you to be able to do this stuff in the future. How are you going to…

Lola: Relax. No one actually believes the stuff in the papers.

Buzz: But it was you who told them…

Lola: Look, people don't want to hear the truth. Not if it's boring. They want embellishment, drama, entertainment, and I'm just the right gal to give them it.

Buzz: But you're lying to them!

Lola: So? It's not like it's against the law.

Buzz: It is!

Lola: So is running over children. And if you even think about mentioning the reality of these "miracles" to the press, I'll…

Buzz: You didn't need to do that.

Lola: What?

Buzz: I've been loyal to you since you started this crazy escapade. I've gone along with your ideas, helped you in your lies, dealt with your arrogance, and you have the gall to think you need to blackmail me to keep me from betraying you? When I agree to help someone, I don't go back on it. You may be dishonorable, but I'm not. I'll thank you to remember that. (Buzz exits, as Lola looks on, shocked)

Lola: Wait! Wait! I didn't mean to…(breaks down crying)

(A Poolboy enters)

Poolboy: Do you need… (Lola throws a towel at him. He exits.)
