Devil in the Passenger's Seat
I don't like to wait. I'm not patient enough
But I guess they are too, that's why we got drunk.
Things are faster and more fun - just like a big dream
But I couldn't tell you what all of this means.
So I jumped from the top and I looked down below
So many faces looked back but they don't know...
All the stories they see that reflect in my eyes...
Or lies... a disguise... and a compromise...
... so we stopped for a second and a girl climbed on in.
We could see the pain on her, her breathe smelled of sin
But she rode in the car for about most of the way
And none of us told her she must go away.
So she stayed in the car and we talked and we laughed...
It's amazing how many hours and miles we passed...
But Jimmy told me when we looked at the map:
"This is the wrong direction. We'll have to go back."
The girl kept on grinning as she stepped on the gas
From the passenger's seat... we were going too fast...
I screamed "Would you STOP! God, we're going to crash,
So I'm pleading the blood that this car doesn't smash.
Jesus take the wheel and make this girl get out!
Holy Spirit if you can haer me when I shout
Watch over us all, Trinity I just pray
That you can save us, stop this car now, someway!"
All of our eyes were closed. The car came to a stop.
We had gone up a hill and we were at the top.
We realized when we all had our eyes open
The passenger's side door - the glass was all broken.
The girl had disappeared, she couldn't be found.
We looked behind the car and we scanned all around
But it almost seemed like she could just disappear
Like she was nothing - like she wasn't really there.
Addy drove home and I sat in the back.
Jimmy sat in the front - he had cleaned up the glass -
And Daniel sat in the back there with me
Thanking our God for... just...everything.
It never occured to me to pray right out loud
In the midst of a party with drinks all around...
But Addy and Jimmy and Daniel and I...
We're so grateful He saved us... man, we could've died.
I don't like to wait. I'm not patient enough
But I guess they are too, that's why they get drunk.
Things appear faster but it's not really a dream
And I still couldn't tell you what all of this means.
