Chapter Four
Ammon and Rai were both very quiet as they continued to walk through the woods. Finally, after the long journey they came to the end of the forest. It was a busy road. Rai sighed with relief.
"Thank God!" she stated as she let out a sigh. "I thought we were going to be walking forever!"
Ammon smiled as he shook his head. He followed Rai down the side and onto the road. They quickly crossed when there were no cars coming and made it to the gas station.
"I need to call my family and tell them what's going on and that I am okay." Rai said.
"That may not be such a good idea." Ammon said.
"Why not! They have a right to know! They're my family!"
Ammon shook his head in defeat. Rai rolled her eyes and goes over to the pay phone. She picks up the phone and hears the dial tone. She punches in the numbers and waits for it to ring.
"The number you have reached is no longer available, please-"
Rai hung up the phone and dialed again. Still, she got the same voice recording. She hung up and turned around. Ammon was no where in sight.
"Ammon?" she called out.
She thought she saw someone around the back of the gas station. She hurried to the back at a slow jog.
"Ammon! What the hell are you-" she stops.
"Hello, beautiful, did you miss me?" said the dark figure.
Rai stepped back as the man stepped into the light. It was Ein. He smiled and gave an evil laugh. Rai froze in fear.
"Are you going to make this easy for me? Or do I have the pleasure of pursuing you first?" Ein said with a growl deep within his voice.
Rai didn't say anything. She just stood there. Ein arched his eyebrow. Within a flash, he had grabbed Rai by the throat and had threw her up against the wall. Rai didn't scream, she didn't fight him. Ein glared at her with that same evil smiled.
"So, you have finally come to realize your inevitable fate? That's good. You make my job a hell of a lot easier." Ein said as he pulled out his dagger.
Rai just looked down. A tear hit Ein on the arm and slowly rolled until it fell to the ground. Ein gave a fake pout.
"Aw, is Rai crying now? How sad!" Ein said as he lifted her head up with the point of the dagger under her chin. "This won't take long, honey. Just relax and it will all be over soon."
"You make one move and I swear it'll be the last mistake you ever make." said a loud voice.
Ein looked over to see Ammon standing in the shadows. Ein smirked and he turned slightly to face Ammon.
"One move, huh? I tell you what, if you turn around right now, I'll make it as painful as possible for the both of you. Fair?"
"How about, if you don't take your fucking hands off of her right now, I'll cut your fucking hand off. Fair?" Ammon said as he glared at Ein.
"Hm...you amuse me, Ammon. Really." Ein said.
Ein didn't listen. All of a sudden, Ammon suddenly disappeared. Ein looked around in confusion.
"Playing hide and seek I see. How pathetic."
All of a sudden, Ammon appeared right beside Ein with a long sword raised above his head. Ein jumped back, but not before Ammon cut his right hand off. Ein screamed out in pain and he held his arm. Blood dripped off of Ammon's sword as he prepared for another attack. Before Ammon could make another move, Ein had thrown a smoke bomb. After the smoke dispersed, Ein was gone.
Ammon turned to Rai, who was still up against the wall. Ammon put a hand on her shoulder. Rai glared at him and with one quick movement, slapped him across the face. Ammon stumbled back bewildered. He held his cheek and just looked at Rai. She shook her hand from the sting she received from slapping him.
"What the fuck was that for!" Ammon screamed. "I just fucking saved your life again! What is with you!"
"Get away from me!" Rai screamed.
"What?" Ammon asked dumbfounded.
"I don't want your help! I'm sick and tired of this shit! I'm dirty, I'm sore, I'm tired!" Rai whined. "I just want to go home!" she screamed.
"Well, why did you feel you had to hit me for that?" Ammon asked as he removed his hand.
"Because this is all your fault!" Rai screamed.
"All my fault! How is this all my fault!"
"Because! If you wouldn't have come onto me in the past, we both wouldn't be here!"
Ammon was quiet for a moment.
"Wait a minute, this doesn't have anything to do with what I said before, does it?"
"Maybe! Just, forget it! Stay the fuck away from me or I will kill you!" Rai said as she stormed off.
Ammon laughed as he turned towards her.
"Kill me? Honey, sorry to be the barer of bad news, but you couldn't kill me if I was half dead." Ammon laughed.
Rai spun around.
"Can so! I don't need you to protect me!"
"Really?" Ammon said as he folded his arms. "Then tell me why you would need me in the first place? Like, back when the palace was on fire."
"You weren't much help then, I still died!" Rai screamed.
"You're such a bitch." Ammon said as he shook his head.
"Bitch?" Rai asked. "You think I'm a bitch?"
"Yeah. That's what I said." Ammon said as he unfolded his arms.
Rai picked up a metal pipe. Ammon rolled his eyes as he shook his head.
"Put that down before you hurt yourself." Ammon said.
"You're the one who is going to get hurt!" Rai said as she swung the pipe.
Ammon easily leaned out of the way. She continued to swing at him and he easily dodged each swing. Finally, Rai was exhausted. Ammon shrugged his shoulders.
"Told you." Ammon said.
All of a sudden, Rai screamed as she swung the pipe. Ammon dodged it, but didn't expect Rai to use her other hand to hit him across the face, then spin around to hit him in the back of the head with the pipe. He fell to the ground, but quickly jumped back up. Rai tried to hit him again, but he caught the pipe with one hand. He jerked the pipe out of Rai's hands.
"Asshole!" she screamed.
Ammon threw the pipe to the side. Rai tried to punch him, but he just backed out of the way. Finally, Rai tried to kick him. As she kicked at him, he ducked down and kicked her other leg out from under her. She landed on her back with a loud thud. The breath was knocked out of her for a moment, but she managed to roll over on her stomach. She picked up dirt in her hand as she stood. When she spun around, she threw the dirt in his eyes.
Ammon stepped back blinded. Rai smirked as she went to kick him again. Ammon was able to catch her leg and pin her up against the building. She tried hitting him with her fists, but he was able to grab both of her hands with only one hand. Ammon wiped the dirt from his eyes and glared at Rai. She then spit in his face.
"What the fuck!" he screamed as he wiped his face. "What do you want me to do! Do you really want me to leave! Is that it! Do you really not need my help!"
"No! I don't need your god damned help!" Rai screamed.
Ammon gave a sweet smile.
"Good." Ammon said as he let her go.
Ammon fixed his cloak as he started to walk off. Rai glared at him.
"Good luck, kiddo." Ammon said as he rounded the corner of the gas station.
Rai just remained behind the gas station.
