I'll climb up a mountain
to fall off a cliff
I'll take a step backwards
assessing the risk
if not overzealous
then overly cautious
when I'm not losing wars
I'm choosing wrong sides
folding my cards
and blowing on dice
when success is looming
dangerously near
I freeze up, go blank
and fail out of fear
when everything's futile
and not worth my time
I pursue it with fervor
at least for a rhyme.
