Epilogue

Three Months Later...

Some time had passed since the murder of Dr. Stewart Lombard, and the startling discovery that a former student of his that went by the name Bane had embodied himself within the body of Alex, who expelled Bane from his mind after a painful struggle for control. Ever since then, Alex remained in a deep coma, not showing the slightest tinge of consciousness. Even though Dr. Bromwell predicted that he would awaken, he wasn’t certain when exactly. So through the months that followed, Robbie sat by Alex’s side, waiting, hoping for him to awaken and grace him with his presence.

Robbie had sustained a substantial injuries during his struggle to help Alex overcome Bane and gain control over his powers. He had broken his arm, cracked his rib, and lost a great deal of blood. But with the proper therapy and treatment, he was back on his feet in no time. He spent as much time as he could afford to spend sitting by Alex’s bedside, admiring his sleeping mass, pondering the possibility that he was dreaming of him. He couldn’t be sure, and wasn’t willing to look inside Alex’s head to find out. He simply sat, watched, and waited, day after day for the love of his life to awaken once again.

Finally, one day while Robbie was at school, Dr. Bromwell came in to check on Alex and read his vitals when all of a sudden, he heard a groan. Turning to find Alex stirring, his eyes brightened with a shimmer, and his lips curled up into a smile. Stepping up to the side of his bed, Dr. Bromwell smiled down at him, and cleared his throat.

“Alex? Are you awake?”

Alex slowly awakened, staring up at Dr. Bromwell through narrow eyes. He blinked absently, and as he fully awakened, nodded. Dr. Bromwell smirked, and nodded.

“Excellent,” he said. “There’s someone whose been wanting to see you. He should be here any minute.”

Just then, the door to Alex’s room opened, and there stood Robbie, frozen in the doorway. Dr. Bromwell turned, and smiled.

“Ah, you’re just in time,” he said, grinning. “Guess who’s awake?”

Robbie’s face instantly lit up as he limed over to Alex’s bed, and gazed down at him in awe.

“Alex...” he said, his voice cracking.

Alex looked up into Robbie’s eyes, his eyes a lighter shade of blue than usual. As Robbie gazed into those baby blue eyes, he saw an almost empty look. He backed away, and turned to Dr. Bromwell.

“What’s wrong with him?” he asked.

Dr. Bromwell raised an eyebrow curiously.

“What do you mean?”

“His eyes... they’re not right.”

Dr. Bromwell blinked, and shrugged.

“I have no idea. Could just be slight discoloration from being asleep for so long,” he stated.

Turning back to Alex, Robbie swallowed nervously, and smiled.

“Hey baby,” he said, coming closer to Alex again. He caressed Alex’s face, smiling nervously. “What’s up?”

Closing his eyes against Robbie’s touch, Alex opened them once again, and looked around absently.

“Where am I? How did I get here?” he asked.

Robbie raised an eyebrow, and tightened his jaw.

“You’re... at the hospital. You passed out and were brought here. You’ve been in a coma for the past three months. Don’t you remember?” he asked.

Alex looked up into Robbie’s eyes, and shook his head.

“No...” he replied. “I don’t.”

Panic quickly rushed over Robbie as he backed up, and turned to Dr. Bromwell.

“What’s wrong with him? Why doesn’t he remember?” he asked in distress.

“Well, he has been in a coma for a while. Most coma patients tend to experience slight amnesia when they first wake up,” Dr. Bromwell replied. He glanced down at Alex, and stared at him for a long while. Suddenly, he turned away, closing his eyes.

“Dr. Bromwell? What’s wrong?” Robbie asked.

Dr. Bromwell gulped nervously, and moved in close to Robbie. As he whispered, Robbie’s eyes widened, and he looked down at Alex in shock and terror.

“What do you mean he’s lost his powers?” Robbie replied in a low voice.

“I mean... he’s lost them. He doesn’t remember anyone, anything, and it seems as if in the process, wiped his mind clean of any memory of his powers,” Dr. Bromwell stated.

Staring down at Alex in complete disbelief, Robbie’s hands began to tremble.

“That can’t be true...” he said. As he gazed into Alex’s light blue eyes, he felt his bottom lip begin to tremble. “No... it can’t.”

Rushing towards the door, Robbie hurried out, until suddenly:

“Robbie...”

Robbie stopped right in the doorway, frozen in place. His eyes filled with tears as he waited for him to repeat what he said.

“Robbie...” Alex said, softly.

Slowly turning back to face Alex, Robbie dried his eyes, and padded back over to Alex’s bed.

“Alex...” he said, smiling. “You... remember me?”

Alex gazed up at Robbie, and nodded.

“Yes...” he replied, hinting a smile. “I... I do.”

Overcome with joy, Robbie bent down over Alex’s bed, and embraced his lover in his arms. He kissed him on the forehead as tears streaked his face. As the two reconciled, Dr. Bromwell slowly backed out of the room, leaving them to themselves.

“So he remembered Robbie-boy, eh?” Sora asked, waiting just outside Alex’s hospital room door.

Dr. Bromwell quickly turned, surprised by his sudden appearance. He smiled, sighed, and nodded.

“Indeed he did. I find it truly remarkable at that.”

“You do?” Sora asked. “You mean you’ve never seen this before?”

Dr. Bromwell leaned back against the wall across from Sora, and sighed.

“I’ve seen amnesia patients remember random people or things. But I’ve never seen a telepath wipe their own minds clear of everything, even their powers, yet only remember one single person.”

Sora grinned.

“What does that say to you about their love?”

Dr. Bromwell chuckled, and shrugged.

“Well, I guess it says that they love each other more than anything else.”

“That’s for sure,” Sora replied. He breathed dreamily, and smiled. “So what happens now? Since Alex clearly no longer possesses any psychic abilities, I don’t expect he’ll be going back to the institute.”

“You’re right about that. Since he is still a minor and has no legal guardian, we can’t just let go free. However, now that Cynthia’s taken over the institute, it’s possible she’ll provide housing for him and Robbie until Alex is 18. Then they’re both free to do whatever they please.”

Sora sighed, and peeked in through the window on Alex’s door.

“That sounds like a plan,” he said. He fell silent for a moment, and closed his eyes. “Be honest with me... do you think he’ll remain like this forever?”

Dr. Bromwell raised an eyebrow.

“What do you mean?”

“You know... do you think he’ll never remember what’s happened? Do you think he’ll never...”

Dr. Bromwell breathed a heavy sigh, and shrugged.

“There’s no telling. It’s possible for him to recover his old memories. But than again, it’s very possible that he won’t.” Pausing, Dr. Bromwell closed his eyes. “However, I’m fairly certain that no matter how well he wiped his mind, he will most definitely regain his psychic abilities.”

“So he’s only lost them temporarily?”

“So it seems. There’s no telling how long it will last. But yes, he will, without a doubt, regain his powers.

Sora moaned, and turned to face Dr. Bromwell.

“And what if he regains his memories?”

Dr. Bromwell looked up at Sora, and shrugged once again.

“No telling. But one thing’s for sure,” he said, pausing. “Whenever he recovers his powers... he’ll be one hell of a telepath.”

Ian had been in a coma for nearly four months now, without any sign of recovery. As a nurse came in tend to his room, his lips twitched, and jerked up into a small, sly smirk...
