Scattered Reflections

I see myself,

A faint reflection

Etched on cool glass,

As the world spins on by,

In a rush of blurred trees, dusty sidewalks

And people in speeding cars.

I am here and I am moving

But my reflection stands still:

A face,

Pushed up against the world.

Only a thin layer of melted sand

Divides us,

As we wind and intertwine

Rows of lanes, turning,

In motion, moving as we hurry,

Always hastening toward

A future- just out of reach.

Only stopping at the glare

Of a crimson light,

And I realize…

That I am like everyone else,

Stuck in traffic

Rushing always rushing,

Waiting.

Then it starts again

And I am lost

In a sea of red, green and amber,

Catching quick glimpses of myself

Reflected against the world

On a thin sheet of glass.
