The Family Dwindledust
A/N: this is one of the many stories I started writing but never got around to finish. Story of my life. Still, I just figured I'd upload it. Maybe someone will think it's funny, maybe someone will want to continue the story? Who knows. It's here anyway:
The family Dwindledust was the most normal family there could be. At least, that was what they thought themselves. Everybody else, neighbours and the townspeople, just referred to them as ‘the freaks up at the Hill’. And they had good reasons for doing so.
The mansion in which the Dwindledust resided was located on top of a hill called High Hill. The funny thing was that the Dwindledusts called it Hell Hill and seemed pleased with that. As for the mansion itself, it was called the Le Manoir Du Zombi. As it was a small town, and no one was very skilled in foreign languages nobody knew exactly what it meant, but they all agreed that it had to be something dark and ill foreboding.
As the Dwindledusts had resided in Aching for many centuries the townspeople had grown accustomed to them. They were mostly accepted as a – if not a part of the community, then at least as a necessity which was tolerated like the fact that some animals would go astray and be lost every year (though some rumourmongers claimed that the Dwindledusts were responsible for that too). Although the Dwindledusts didn’t exactly have serious enemies in Aching, they didn’t have any friends either. But the Dwindledusts didn’t seem to mind. Except for one.-
Her name was Sonia Perdita Dwindledust, though she never used her middle name. She didn’t like it at all. It was after her great-great-grandmother Perdita Dwindledust. Nobody liked Perdita Dwindledust, not even the Dwindledusts themselves (and that says quite a bit about Perdita), but nobody dared to do otherwise than to name their daughters after the old crone, so every true-born Dwindledust girl had a middle name they seldom used - Perdita. Now you may ask yourself why the Dwindledusts kept naming their girls after the old hag even after her death. Well, that’s simply because she was still hanging around in the mansion. Literally. Upon her death, the old witch had given the company of “grieving” family members who’d gathered around her bed to make sure she really did die for real this time (there had been some false alarms before) an evil grin and uttered with her last breath: ‘You haven’t seen the last of me yet...’
The family had hoped that there was nothing special about this, but their hope was in vain. A month later things had started to happen. Things Out of the Ordinary.
Now, Things had always been Happening in Le Manoir Du Zombi, and most normal people would definitely call them Out of the Ordinary, but this was still much worse.
The first thing that had happened was the Tooth fairy incident. Sonia’s great-grandfather Phobos and great-grandmother Pandora had at this time a son, their only child. His name was Oliver, although it was often shortened down to just ‘liver. Grandfather ‘liver had at this time just got his canine teeth and his parents were overjoyed with pride. One night they awoke by the cries from ‘liver. As they rushed to his room they found him crying in his bed and with his canine teeth knocked out. He had later gotten some replacements of course, but who could be so evil as to knock out a child’s canine teeth?
This was soon followed by the Painting incident (the old painting of Echidna Dwindledust whom Perdita had never been fond of was found scratched and damaged beyond repair) and the Cobweb incident, which had left the old mansion totally cobweb free(!).
A/N: yeah, that's about it...not really long or anything. Maybe one day I'll continue writing on it, maybe I won't.
Note: Le Manoir du Zombi - I never had French in school, so I used a translation tool on the net and typed in Mansion of the Undead, and this is what came up. If anyone has any idea (maybe some of you speak French as your mother tongue) whether this may be right (probably not since it's been translated on the net) and what would be better to have. I dunno.
Cheers!
