The Crash

It was beautiful; the way the metal broke the silence with a shriek, the blue paint fractured to pieces, the glass shattered and fell broken-hearted on the midnight road

-Stop the bleeding-

You know as well as I that those sweet scars will never fade.
No matter how long you’re soaked in bleach that jacket will always be stained.

-Open your eyes-

There’s nothing to see anymore… but if time spins backwards maybe we’ll notice the ashes before we’ve burned.

-Stifle the scream-

And just savor that kerosene-cologne smell, leaking from the backseat skyward.
Not all warnings are audible, but

-Say your goodbyes-

these bass beats aren’t just in your head, love. (they are)
.

On late nights when I’m driving and my headlights flood the road, I can still see the glass like glitter on the street,
but nothing haunts more than your whispered last words…

let.me.go.
