I failed at life, although I tried.

I failed at death; I haven’t died.

I have no aim, no purpose here,

Except to run from fear to fear.

(My candle burns low…the end is near).

The wide world has no need of me;

I have no strong ability,

No reason that I should hear stay,

No reason to live day to day.

The world has turned its back on me-

Condemned to damned and lonely be.

So find me on a winter sea,

Utt’ring lonely, mournful cries,

As a mockingbird that dies…

A requiem of my demise,

Sung with a voice that I despise.

And now this day, the song has died.

I meant it when I said I tried,

And you just stared, and thought I lied.

So watch me on the cold sea side,

A stretch of sand open and wide,

For I have nothing more to hide.

And listen as I sing again,

In winter-ridden biting rain…

I know you think that I’m insane

As I release my last refrain,

And with it release all the pain,

For most of which you are to blame.

(My final breath blows out the flame),

And into foaming waves I fall.

A thousand voices beckon, call

Me back….they loved me after all…

And you scream loudest of them all.

You didn’t know until too late -

I’m the one for which you wait,

I’m the one to heal your hate,

Teach you to love, and change your fate…

The love around which your world turns

Is now part of the sea that churns.

The flame of love no longer burns,

So burn your heart, and scar it black!

Nothing now can bring me back!

Before I die, I hear it crack-

My heart…

…And yours…
