there was a boy in the crowd who had pixie dust in his pocket.

he didn’t like to tell people his name but

he loved to hear her say it.

he was a :flutter:FLY b-o-y with a story in his telephone voice.

he looked at his hands when she tried to find him through the spotlights.

there would a l w a y s be the b-o-y she couldn’t count on.

everyone held their breath as she began to step forward.

when she reached up, she touched the sky. and they turned away.

then, dragonflygirl posed a delicate question that ripped through them,

(a unexpected wave that knocked an innocent child into the sand,)

(pivoting,) she quietly exited (STAGE RIGHT) leaving mouths agape &

a :flutter:FLY b-o-y in the back of the room with anger in his mouth.

he wondered why his girl had to be a revolutionist,

why his baby had to be the Fa!ry PrIncess no one believed in.

…?…

he never found out because he left her the very next day.

but she just sighed, reached up, and touched the stars.

there would a l w a y s be the dragonflygirl no one could keep down.

there would a l w a y s be :flutter:FLY b-o-y in the red folding chair.

& there would always be that silence after she disappeared behind the curtains,

somewhere between the applause and the end of the world.
