And how
Does thy heart
Pump blood
Throughout bodies
Throughout time
When fear is coming
Still beating
Throbbing
Faster
Harder
Fear
Once called
The most powerful emotion
Overtaking
Paralyzing
Over
The darkness
Fear cannot
Be expressed in words
i’m scared
i’m confused
save me
So breathtaking
When hearing them
From those you love
You must
Add feeling
Add emotion
That makes
Your stomach sink
And your heart
To beat
Faster,
Faster.
It must overtake you
When expressed
In the most simplest words
‘I’m scared, Ally, are the puppies gonna be okay? Is Air Bud gonna save them?’
Words of a four year old
Caring, compassion.
Is that fear?
Or is it
While breaking
‘please, is she gonna be okay?’
Writing
Them
Down
Doesn’t say
Anything.
But when staring
At
The face of a little girl
Only
Ten
Dissolved into tears
Clinging to her mother
Is
that fear?
Would fear be
Your English teacher
Catching you talking
During a test
Is that pure
And simple
Fear?
Can fear be put into the words that say
‘Please, please don’t! Please don’t do this to me; don’t kill me, oh, God!’
Can that emotion
Be put into
A simple four letter word?
Overpowering.
Can a simple surprise
Like ‘BOO!’
And your heart
Immediately lurching
Falling
Be put into a sound
That is dropped around carelessly?
Can this writing
Be as much
As fear itself?
Fear.
One may look at it
As a few letters
But one may look at it
As an overpowering
Breathtaking
Brilliant emotion.
Some may see it as a definition
A simple description
An adrenaline rush
Or a movie
That was never reality
But what is fear?
No words
Can fully describe it
It’s as simple as reading a poem
But it’s complex
As the entire universe.
