Snapshot

In the midst of the city,
a place of solitude.

Dusk deepening into twilight.
Sunset of orange and fuchsia.

Dark clouds drift across the sky.
Rainfall in the distance.

The winds blow gently,
embracing me softly.

Tiny birds float by and then
return the way they came.

Distant twinkles of music
breathe from lonely wind chimes.

I close my eyes and lift my arms.
Slowly I inhale.
Dinner is on the grill: beef, pork, chicken.

Soothed and at peace,
I watch the crescent moon rise above us all.

An ice cream truck rolls by
shaking me from my reverie.

It blares a grating tune;
too fast, too loud.

Sighing, I whistle for the dog
and drift across the pavement towards home.
