Seasons Change

Chapter 1

::Autumn::

“How hott was Nathan last night?!” my sister, Spring squealed, making me cringe.

“Yes, we heard you the first ten times.” My other sister snapped, Winter.

“Oh! But Win, he was so gorgeous. Didn’t you just want to jump him every time you looked at him?” Spring squealed again.

“No.” Winter deadpanned as my other sister, Summer walked in.

That’s right, my sisters are all named after the seasons. I’ll give you three guesses as to what my name is. Our parents were going through a weirdo, hippy, worship the elements stage of their lives and we ended up with the backlash. Yes, all of us. The four of us are most commonly known as the Moore Quad’s. Always have been, probably always will be. Yep, we were all squashed together in our poor mothers stomach seventeen years ago and all decided to pop out one cold, stormy July morning, each exactly half an hour apart. Summer first, then me-Autumn, Winter and, finally Spring. You know, I really do pity our mother, I mean, can you imagine having the four of us growing inside of you? Seriously, imagine how huge she would have been! Imagine carrying all that weight around. One or two would be hard enough, but four.

First look at us and you really wouldn’t think we were related let alone quadruplets. Maybe Summer and Spring may look like sisters but, really, we don’t look that similar. You don’t believe me? Well, let me explain it to you. I’ll start with Summer because, well, that’s where everyone starts, I guess. She has wavy red-gold hair that is more gold than red with awesome green eyes that I’m very often jealous of. She’s got a curvy figure and never-ending legs, making her stand at 5’6”, two inches taller than Spring and I and just shorter than Winter. She was ‘first out’ and constantly reminds us of it, especially when she and Winter clash. Don’t get me wrong, we all love each other and get along pretty well but, if there’s going to be a fight, it’ll be between Summer and Winter. Spring and I are happy enough just to sit back and watch during these, it’s safer for everyone. Summer is the preppy, gorgeous one of us four girls. Not to say that we’re all that shabby, of course but Summer is the embodiment of the perfect teen. What every girl would kill to look like. She seems perfect; perfect looks, perfect boyfriend, perfect family and friends. Sometimes it gets a little nauseating.

Next there’s me. As you’ve probably guessed, I’m a little more bookish than my other sisters. Not to say I’m a complete nerd, I know how to party, though I’m not a complete party animal like Summer and Spring are. I have dark, dusty red-brown hair that’s half straight and half curly which, I think is pretty cool. My eyes are a sensible, earthy brown and I’m quieter than my other sisters. I’d rather sit back and watch whatever is going on around me and I’m considered ‘the sensible one’ of we four sisters, the one they turn to when they’re in trouble or when they just want a hug. I’m 5’4”, like Spring and, although I’m pretty slow to anger I hate it when my height is rubbed in my face. I’ve been told I have a pretty dry sense of humour and that, mixed with quiet sarcasm has obviously won me a few friends, though it has lost me some too.

Winter is third, our residential Ice Queen, living up to her name to perfection. She has dead straight white-gold hair that falls to just above her elbows with icy-blue eyes that seem to look straight through you. Her skin is fair and she really does look and acts like an Ice Queen. She’s pretty protective of us, despite the fact that she is the second ‘youngest’ and she has a bitting tongue that surely leaves scars if you’re on the receiving end. She’s the tallest of us standing at 5’7” and, although she doesn’t say much, and if anything, it’s not usually too nice she still has quite a few friends and followers because of her looks. She doesn’t, however, have many close friends, not that she would ever admit this. She closes herself off and seems to purposefully shroud herself in mystery. It’s amazing I can actually get through to her sometimes. Winter usually only attends any parties we go to so she can look out for the rest of us, though, I have to admit, she knows how to have a good time when she wants.

Lastly, there is the ‘baby’ of the family, Spring who was born exactly an hour and a half after Summer, though she seems to be the one most like her with golden-blonde hair, though she had baby-blue eyes instead of Summer’s green. Probably, the only visible similarity between Spring and myself would be our height. She, too is 5’4” tall but honestly doesn’t care about her height, unlike me. She, like Summer is an absolute preppy, cheerleader girl and she has to be the bubbliest person I’ve ever met. She’s considered ‘the cute one’, which effectively protects her from most of the harsh things going on around us and gets her everything she could ever want. Unlike Summer, however, she doesn’t have just one boyfriend, one guy to tie her down. She goes to parties single and leaves them the same way, hooking up with anyone she wants in between. She could be considered the equivalent of a slut but no one would ever call her that because a) she’s way too cute b) her male friends would kick their ass c) her sisters would kick their ass and d) they’d have to deal with Winter in a bad mood. I think d) is one of the biggest reasons why she’s left alone. That and the fact that her male friends are usually huge sporty jocks and body-builder-like guys. Scary.

Anyway… the point was…. Um… Oh yeah! We don’t really look alike. We also have two older brothers who, like Winter are extremely over-protective but even more so.

Charlie is twenty-one and is at college most of the time, partying and probably failing his courses. He’s a partier like Summer but looks like Winter with white-gold hair and blue eyes. I swear, he’s built like a brick out-house from playing football and uses it to his advantage when scaring away any guys he thinks are sniffing around us. He towers over us at 6’5”, taller, even than my dad who’s 6’3”.

Aaron is nineteen and just finished high school last year. He’s a little more sedated like me and is, probably the one I look most like. He has dark russet-red hair that’s always messy, even when he brushes it and he has Summer’s brilliant green eyes. He’s actually quite shy despite his extremely large, imposing build and height, 6’4”, just shorter than Charlie but this still brings the girls swarming to him. Yes, he like the rest of his family, me included, strangely enough, is a magnet for the opposite sex and, sometimes the same sex. His dark, mysterious and quiet, appearance really attracts the girls.

Because he’s only just left school, he and some of his mates are still hanging around while they get themselves together before going to college or whatever and they can often be found at our house. Actually, it seems like our house is the main gathering point of our neighbourhood, well, all our friends any way. The door is always unlocked and there’s always someone walking in and out. I know what you’re thinking, someone is obviously going to walk in and steal something or other but I guess everyone realises that, if they screw with us and our house, they’re going to get their ass kicked one way or another. We have contacts everywhere, and I mean everywhere!

My dad is an ex-naval officer, a general, I think, so he made squillions to add to the pile of money he inherited from our grandparents, his parents who used to own a jewellery factory and business thing. Mum is a leading neurosurgeon who also makes a bucket load, though her job means she can’t be home a lot and means she travels around the world heaps, sometimes taking dad, the boys or us with her. It’s really awesome. Obviously, if anything happened, not only could we use our money to hire someone to pound on them, we could also call in some favours from people around the world to hurt them or set the tax man on them at least. Yeah, did I mention I could get a little violent? Hehe.

Any way… back to my sisters. Winter was scowling in distaste as Spring went on and on about her newest eye-candy ‘Nathan’, and Summer just laughed at her. The house, or should I say mansion was empty for once and it was one of those rare times we girls were alone together. Mum was somewhere in Italy, Venice, I think she said and dad was out as some honorary guest at the launching of a new ship. Charlie was at college, of course and Aaron and his mates were out. Still. They hadn’t come back from the party last night and were probably sleeping it off at the guy’s house.

“Do you even know his last name, Spring?” Summer smiled and nudged her with her elbow.

“… Shut up.” She pouted, crossing her arms over her chest, “I know he goes to Dervington.” She said smugly and I heard Winter snort.

“You realise he’s probably a stuck up prig.” She said. I had to agree, the people at Dervington, the private school around here, often were spoiled rich kids, not that we should be talking, we’re probably better off than half those kids and we just go to a good old public school. Nothing wrong with that.

“Leave her alone, Win, she’s allowed to look. I’ve got to agree, though, he seemed pretty snotty, Spring.” Summer mediated for once.

“That’s just because you were too wrapped up with Mike to notice anything different.” She huffed, flopping back onto the carpet and laying spread eagle as we watched her from our various couches. Mike was Summer’s boyfriend of almost two years, we all thought he was pretty cool.

“Any way,” I said, changing the subject before she began to wallow, “what are we doing today?”

“Mike said he’d probably drag Aaron and the boys back here around ten then we’ll probably just bum around all day.” Summer told us and we all nodded in agreement.

“Sounds good.” I said then got up to search for something to eat and I heard my sisters continue the conversation from earlier, however, it had somehow morphed into a conversation on who they each thought was the hottest. Knowing I would inevitably be attacked with questions I really didn’t want to answer I went and hid in my room with my Nutella and 100’s and 1000’s (or Sprinkles, whatever you want to say) sandwich. Yum.

A/N: Hello to all! I know I should be writting 'High School Psychology 101' (yes I am shamelessly advertising to those who haven't read my story yet.) but this has been floating around for a while and thought you might like it. Sorry for all the description if you think it's too much and I love you if not. Any way, I'll put a few more chapters up to see what you think and to decide if I'm going to continue this story. To do that, though, I'm going to need you all to R&R for me...so go! Review!

Bye.
