Epilogue

Clive rushed through the halls of the inn, searching for Gale after his talk with Shay. He was still amazed she had been correct when she accused the innkeeper of murder. The officers had located the young girl’s body within the shallow lake shortly after Shay had led them to it. It had been several hours since the officers had arrived and the five of them had already given them their statements and were allowed to leave. Clive cursed as he reached the inn’s front doors; Gale was already at the front bumper of her car.

“Gale?” He called as he ran out the doors and down the stairs, trying to catch her before she left. Luckily she heard him and stopped at her car’s door, waiting for him to reach her. “What do you want?” She asked as he stopped before her. Taking a couple deep breaths, he said: “My brother wants to proposition you.” Clive watched as Gale’s eyes darkened slightly, but wasn’t sure why she was upset over what he had stated. At least until he said it again in his mind. He smiled sheepishly. “That did not come out the right way and was not what I was trying for. Shay wants to propose a deal with you. Will you hear it out before you leave?”

Sighing deeply, since she just really wanted to leave, Gale nodded. “You got two minutes.” Clive was quiet for a moment, as he tried to remember just the important parts Shay had told him. “Shay was wondering if you would join us? We will split all of our earnings right down the middle between the five of us. He had said you did not have to stay for very long if you do not want to, he just would like for you to stay long enough to be taught the difference between the two plains and learn a bit more control. What do you say?” Gale leaned back against her car as she thought upon the offer.

It was tempting; considering if she could decipher between the living and the dead, it would make her life and job a hell of a lot easier. The only thing that stopped her in the past from joining some of the other groups she met up with, were the scars on her neck and chest. She never wanted to be forced back into a mental institution, thus she decline all offers and stayed to herself. These four men, however, seemed different than the others she had met. They didn’t seem to care how or why she got the scars and didn’t appear to want to force her back into care.

Gale stared down at the eagerly awaiting boy, still unsure what to answer. “If I accept, what is expected of me in return?” Clive seemed a bit confused over her question. “We only expect you to do what you normally do on a job. To help us figure out what is there and how to get rid of it if we can. Nothing more, nothing less.” Gale closed her eyes for a moment, thinking it over again. Figuring she really had nothing to lose by accepting and perhaps she could gain quite a bit from it, she opened her eyes and nodded at Clive. “Alright, I accept.” He smiled brightly before taking her hand and leading her back to the inn. Gale just hoped she didn’t make a mistake by accepting as they entered its foyer.
