Author's Notes: This is a poem I wrote for a Dungeons & Dragons character I was planning on playing. I never played the character, but thought the poem was still worth posting.

May wind lash upon me,

And rain beat down on my face

I’d take a thousand thrashings,

Before I’d dream to leave this place

For here rests my beloved mother,

Lying underneath the earth

Her tombstone forever marking,

Her life but not her worth

For what can a stone quite say,

Can speak through all our tears?

About the person buried beneath,

No, it can only speak of years

A person will always be more than is said,

The compassion and hope will shine through

But the stone’s not the size to carry these things,

So my memories will just have to do
