Three
“What do you mean you lost him?” Rudi roared, his yellow eyes glowing with anger.
“Lizzie Rose turned up and killed more than half my men.” Bruno explained, he was well aware that Rudi needed him, so wouldn’t kill him, but that didn’t mean pain might follow. At the mention of the vampire’s name Rudi slammed his hand down on the oak desk, in the tiny room they were in.
“Did she know you were specifically after him?” Rudi asked, his fists clenching at his side. The young lycan glared at Bruno, his brown curls draping around his face. Bruno knew that Lizzie had been the one to kill Rudi’s twin sister – Rosie. He shook his head in answer. “You’re certain?” he continued.
“Affirmative, my mind was blocked to her and no one else knew. As far as she’s concerned he was just another meal.” Rudi’s creased forehead smoothed, a wicked grin playing across his lips.
“Good. We must find the human again.”
“But sir, there are rumours that Lizzie can predict the future. How do we know she won’t foresee the real reason the human is important? How else would she have known I was there in the first place? It would be highly unlikely she was in that area to begin with.” The sound of Rudi’s fist coming into contact with the darkened wall made Bruno wince.
“Had Lizzie been on her own?” Bruno looked confused. Rudi sighed, the idiots he had to deal with. “When she attacked you was she alone?” he repeated.
“Yes.”
“And did she say anything?”
“Only that she wanted to find you.” The grin re-appeared on Rudi’s face and widened. He strode across to the oak desk and pulled out the top draw. He took hold of the contents. “She is powerful, you’re sure we can defeat her?” Bruno questioned.
Rudi looked at the object in his hand, twirling the cool gold locket in his fingers he focused back on Bruno.
“Lizzie has her weaknesses, leave her to me.” Bruno watched Rudi’s eyes glow once more, this time it wasn’t through anger. He snarled at Bruno, “find the human, and be sure to keep your mind blocked. Take as many lycan’s as you need.” Bruno nodded, noticing a dismissal, when he heard one; he turned and left the tiny room.

“A vampire?” Adam repeated. “But your so…so – young.” He finished finally. I looked at him, trying to ignore his overwhelming thoughts, which I was flattered by. I couldn’t help but be annoyed at his words though. “Or maybe you’re really a thousand or something?” I smiled.
“No I really am sixteen – nearly seventeen.” His eyebrows rose. It puzzled me that he was more concerned about my age, than the fact vampires were real and there was one standing in front of him.
“Wait – vampires are real?” he questioned. Ah – there we go, that’s more like it. I decided to move things on a bit, so feeling a little hunger rise, I allowed my fangs to extend into perfect curved points, and inch in length, I was certain my eyes had gone blood red too. Adam’s eyes widened in horror and he backed up on the bed.
I heard Deacon silently smirk; clearly he was happy to see Adam scared. Over the couple of months, I had perfected the art of talking to Deacon mentally. Mainly it involved me putting a lot of energy into sending a message across. I turned and glared at him – glaring was the other way to get the message across. Deacon had continually informed me it would be easier if I just turned him. The lycan chase had stopped that from happening recently though.
I closed my eyes and tried to focus. The smell of lycan blood was sending my senses crazy.
“Next you’re going to tell me those other things were werewolves.” Adam’s eyes widened again, when neither of us denied it.
“Look, just be careful OK? There’s a battle going on out there, involving more than you can imagine. Do yourself a favour and don’t get in the middle of it, trust me you’ll come out a lot worse, next time you probably won’t be as lucky. Keep yourself out of danger – stay in public places, don’t be out – especially on your own, in the middle of the night.” I stared at him for a moment, before grabbing some of Deacon’s clothes and throwing them at him. I opened the door to the en-suite and nodded for him to go in. he took the clothes cautiously and slid off the bed entering the bathroom.
Deacon gave me a questioning look, raising his eyebrows in a way that made me weak at the knees.
“I couldn’t let him leave naked,” I whispered.
“Why not?” Deacon protested. I playfully threw a pillow at him; Deacon was throwing it back when the lock clicked and the door to the bathroom opened, revealing a clean Adam. I had to admit he was cute looking; I smiled reassuringly, and opened the door of our room onto the landing, signalling that he could go now. I watched him as he peered at the open door. Deacon’s clothes were a tiny bit too small for him as he was a couple of inches taller than him. The pair of light jeans was baggy too, as he was skinnier than Deacon – not that Deacon was fat, he was more average sized. The long sleeve white top, made his skin look even more tanned. I didn’t need to be a telepath to know he was questioning if he wanted to leave or not. All three of us waited patiently – John and Deacon silent figures in the background.
“How come your not asleep in a coffin? Its daylight.” He asked I stayed calm; trying to understand that he was bound to have questions any one would if they’d just been given this information.
“Vampires aren’t like the myths – its complicated, and the less you know the better, but to put a long story short I’m special and can withstand the sun.” for the moment, I added silently – I was still unsure whether or not turning Deacon would take the privilege away or not. My ancestors – the twins – Richard and Edward were the original vampires and once they turned their friend, they couldn’t go out into the light – and they stopped aging. The full extents as to my abilities are difficult to comprehend.
“Special?” Deacon voiced, I ignored him, but couldn’t help but smiling at his tone of voice.
“OK, so what about werewolves? Are they weakened against silver? I need to know so I can defend myself.”
“Lycan’s aren’t like the myths either. Any weapon effects them – but that doesn’t mean you should carry a knife around with you – it might get you into trouble. Besides the chances of you coming face to face with a lycan again are slim. If you think ones after you, then go somewhere public – they won’t attack you, where there are witnesses to expose them. Get there fast and if your still worried your always welcome to come to us. Here,” I grabbed hold of some paper and jotted down a contact number, passing it to Adam, “give this number a ring if your ever in trouble.” He put the number in his/Deacon’s pocket and nodded, then headed for the door.
“Bye then, and I suppose thanks.” He turned and was out of sight. Deacon went across and closed the door, and the turned to me.
“You gave him our number?” he moaned.
“Yes, Deacon it was just a bit of reinsurance, I mean why would he call us, when he knows I’m a vampire?” I noted the rise of John’s eyebrows as it was plain he weren’t too sure. Which was typical if he was bothered he should have said something rather than just stand there in silence.
“Right.” Was Deacon’s response. I gave up, no matter what I couldn’t please everyone.
